Open Broadcaster wouldn't run on XP. But now that I finally upgraded to Windows 7, it works fine.
I will try some TPA streaming tonight, starting around 7 PM US Eastern. I'll be going for the Williams Challenge. The challenges look perfect for a streaming audience, to go through a number of...
I kind of agree with weirdingway's sentiment. High Speed hasn't aged as well as we thought. It's not so exciting after all given that Getaway does pretty much everything better. High Speed was a spectacular landmark for its time and practically invented flow and did invent jackpots, but other...
+1 to this, very well stated. Man I miss No Fear, haven't see one on location to play in at least 12 years, and all the big places like the Vegas PHOF and Silverball Museum and Modern Pinball NYC don't have it.
Stern Star Trek is a bit more catchy than it seems at first. You'll do better...
Pitch and Putt in Teed Off can't be nearly that abusable on a real machine, right? We get TPA's railroad physics allowing an auto-catch after each captive ball shot to increase the value. But you'd never last that long on a real machine before one of the uncontrollable rebounds finds a drain...
I think the con that way is worse, since it screws up relative rankings. Next week when those are no longer tied, every other game will look like it dropped a notch, when really nothing happened at all. But up to you.
Yes, Whirlpool Challenge is absurdly railroadable on TPA. I had one last 40 minutes and score over 8 billion. Mine eject -> No Way Out -> Bigfoot Bluff for eternity. And even if you miss Bigfoot, you get another shot from the inlane feed!
I think I remember that each 6th shot awards only the...
Ok, I made 24 billion, for #2 on the leaderboard behind Squid. 35B was reachable, but I tilted away the last three balls because I was bored and tired and terrified of the lost ball or idol bonus bugs. Good enough. Once the continent total reached 500M, I stopped bothering to play them (just...
Also noticed this: You can stack certain continents into Atlantis.
You need to have two continents running. One must be Europe, South America, or Asia. The other can be any. Finish the other for the 7th Ripley letter (draining out of multiball if necessary), and Atlantis will light and can...
Keyboard buttons can indeed press and release that fast. I've done low level debugging of a Guitar Hero clone on the PC and seen the frame by frame controller input.
superballs is right, that TPA always moves the flipper the full stroke even if the flipper button isn't held down for that long...
Ok, I'm seriously working on this one now. Aiming for 20 legit billion to get on top of all those bugged scores. I've gotten to 8 billion with several EBs still left multiple times then got killed by either the lost ball or idol bonus bug. Time to adopt Squid's bandaids there of not playing...
I got a unique one. Baby Pac-Man. Like many others I was too young to remember for sure, but there was definitely a Baby Pac in my local Chuck-e-Cheese when I was 7 or so. It also had a High Speed but Baby Pac most likely came first.
I was also mesmerized by a Blackwater 100 in the bowling...
Digital input works for this. Real pinball machines have digital switches for the flipper buttons (optos since the mid 90's). They're either on or off, there is no variable input.
What TPA is missing is extremely fine timing sensitivity. Those tap passes are done by pressing the flipper...
Yeah, ToM is one of the better flowy games. TZ and ToM have quite similar score scales (jackpots 50M, most modes 20-40M, wizard mode ~400M), so 6.4B on TZ is probably just about a similar benchmark.
TZ is all about that slot machine kickout. If you're willing to catch and shoot from that, 6B...
That 1000 on one ball takes a considerable amount of luck. You can get 200 or so from a good trip to the upper half of the playfield if the ball rattles around the bumpers and number targets for a while. Getting 1000 is really just a matter of doing that five times without draining.
I never heard of Steam cloud saving until this thread. (I don't use Steam very much.) I never enabled or disabled it before. It sounds like the easiest way to make this work. Tomorrow I'll try booting into the old XP install to see if that can get Steam cloud sync going. Thanks for the advice!
Champion Pub's multiball. The entire rest of the game is so dedicatedly on theme to the boxing and the training and even the other old-timey stuff like the spitting video mode. But then multiball is suddenly a thoroughly modern standard pinball lock-lock-jackpot sequence.
And...
For its time, High Speed was mindblowing. First game with a progressive jackpot, first game with real flow between multiple flippers, first game with a real music soundtrack, and Williams' first alphanumeric game. It was also ported to an NES cartridge version that exposed it to a much wider...
Centaur is indeed probably the table where you need to trap the least. Just constantly whacking towards the ORBS targets and chamber pretty much does everything you need.
You'll go down in flames if you try something like Twilight Zone or Ripley's without ever trapping, though.
Diner all the way. Cyclone is good but there just isn't quite enough going on to be interesting for serious play, like Space Shuttle. Forget Earthshaker, we've already got a crapton of Lawlors that all play the same.
I like clowns. Never understood all the hate. Clowns are cool.
