It's likely the fact that it's not compressed for mobile devices. The original recorded audio was @ 44.1K IIRC and then down sampled to 11.25K for mobile and then (possibly?) further compressed when packed into the game resource. ( I recall seeing an ADPCM tag for the mobile resource packager )...
I don't live near FS to try out the real machine, but the emulation dictates what sound to play, so unless it's an emulation bug, my guess would be the real machine does that. Hard to know w/o playing a real machine to find out.
Yes it is emulated. The audio hardware however is not emulated, it's simulated using recorded audio from Farsight's table. Last I checked it speeds up the music as switches are closed and cuts the music during voice calls, so I'd be curious if others are seeing similar things.
Far as I understand it WMS won't approve any table that has any non-factory changes made to it, which rules out any mods. Shame, I really like some of the popular mods out there.
You would think so, but in fact we get NOTHING from them! We even have to download the manuals if it didn't come with the game they bought. Frankly I've been very disappointed at the lack of help we get from them. The one single exception is Stern who allowed us to have a conference call once...
For TZ, WW, CFTBL, and T2 I recorded the audio myself from my pins in the basement. I own TZ & T2, and simply burned roms for the other 2 games.
I used a direct line in to the digital recorder from the sound board directly using the modification detailed on google ( somewhere ) about getting...
Nice work on the Roadshow audio, definitely sounds nice and clean. Can you document your recording procedure a bit more so I can pass it on to FS for future tables?
There's definitely compression ruining the sounds, and I'm sure that is a lot of the issue, but I also feel the original DCS...
Yeah sorry, FreeWPC. He didn't pull all his info from pinmame, because some of it is different. The 2 issues I had have not been resolved in pinmame, since I did check the code to see if someone had figured it out. If I name the issues, you'll easily guess the people who helped. What I can say...
I'm guessing the reason you had more issues with Gottlieb System 3 is because it's running FOUR cpu cores ( 2 for sound, 1 for main, 1 for dmd ), while Capcom is running 2 ( main & sound ). Although the main capcom is running at a higher clock rate and is a 16 bit cpu vs 8, perhaps the...
Actually I am the one who emulated it for pinmame, even though I had already retired ( I think I did it in 2006 ). Brian maintains the file ( i.e., adding new rom support ).
I've spoken with FS about adding support for it, but as is a common theme, it would not run well ( if at all ) on...
Nice catch on AFM! I just checked and you're right it's missing. At first I got nervous that it was an emulation bug, but thankfully further investigation revealed it to be a corrupt sample on the FS server. My sample which I submitted was fine, so I just submitted a new one. No idea when...
What I wouldn't give for some access to real information about the wpc asic! Even more so for some of the strange things they do with the sound board data that gets sent over to the dcs and pre-dcs boards. Unfortunately I asked FS repeatedly to get some help from Williams, but we never had any...
Glad to hear from you as well. My dev PC had some major issues today so I spent a lot of time waiting ( instead of working ), which gave me a chance to catch up on some posts.. :)
Not an FS employee, just someone doing contract work for them -- but I can't stand the pink issue anymore than you guys, and I've complained about it internally before anyone else was aware of it ( i.e, before Twilight Zone screenshots went public, which IRC is when the pink first appeared )...
