I actually tested this yesterday, and it is still loopable, but there are a couple more potential trajectories and one of them requires a double nudge to get the ball back under control. I think it's still the optimal strategy for scoring on Gorgar, but slightly less terrible for the player than it used to be. A step in the right direction anyway so hooray for that.
