Hey guys. Figured I post a little something about this on here. As payment for shopping an Aztec, I received two really filthy machines, a Gottlieb King Rock and a Williams Liberty Bell. I got to work on the King Rock first and, as of yesterday, it's pretty much finished. I'll add a couple pics but, if you want the full story, I posted a much longer thread on pinside. Thanks for looking.

Boy that looks like a lot of cleaning. Nice job man. Spinners look cool.
Don't think I ever played that one. How does it play? Do you like it?

I think the four 3" flippers really attracted people to this game (along with its two player version, King Kool) back in '72. The early 70's was when we first started seeing the change over from the 2" flippers to 3" ones and a pin with four probably looked really different. This one did get A LOT of play. Over 220k plays on the counter. Playfield held up pretty well considering that.

Do I like it? It's ok but with four flippers, you can forget about trapping. Dead passing is fine but it's really a back and forth game. If you can manage to get the ball back to the top, it doesn't stay there for long. I put new flipper switches on (along with a bunch other worn out parts) because the old ones were pretty much burned away from use. Plenty of snap to them.

Not much to the rules. Spell the KING letters through the upper rollovers or targets, rip the spinners which rotates the center green lights, build your bonus and randomly light special on the center target.

Bottom line is I have three other games to work on and not much room in the house so King Rock will be up for sale.

Well the game is sold and was picked up today. Went for $500.00 on ebay and the new owner drove from Michigan to PA to get it. He told me he played it in college and had a lot of fond memories of the game. He looked really happy when he saw it which made me happy that it was going to someone who had a lot of nostalgia for the pin.

Now onto something else. Started a little on the Liberty Bell but dad says I need to take home the Genco Hits and Runs. We'll see. :)

There are times when money don't mean nothing. It's all about a smile. There have been times in my business when that was Payment enough.
