I like this topic. I hope you make a poll out of it after you get some replies, or maybe I will :). I love Monsters of Rock. Nearly everything about MB is perfect including this mode. The last shot to complete the six shots seems to always be a different one, and I love stuff like that. "Emergent behavior," maybe. The increasing point values is also great. Simple idea, but not widely used, like a lot of Lyman's rules for MB. Minor gripe: I wish the maximum values were higher, maybe double what they are. On the other hand, I don't like the Monster Bash mode. I don't have anything strongly against it, I just don't care for frenzy modes, like those in the already-mentioned CV and STTNG. I think frenzies should always go along with something else, a frenzy all by itself is boring. I'm not picking on Lyman too much though, this mode needs to be less interesting than Monsters of Rock. The Genie Battle (?) on TotAN is probably my all-time favorite, on the real machine. I've played it hundreds of times and it's always exciting, not too easy or too hard. I seemed to win it about half the time when I last played it regularly a few years ago. You really miss a lot, like the constant, frenzied plunging, in a video version. TPA's is trivial of course and so, sadly, a least favorite. Of those mentioned, I agree with liking Battle for the Kingdom / MM and Grand Finale / ToM. LAH's World Premiere is a bit of a letdown, but I still like it, as there's a bit of strategy involved in how quickly you play it. I don't know if CBW's Nine-Ball round counts, but it's one of my favorites. Very, very stressful, fun to watch the ball bounce around the upper playfield, hoping it'll hit the right drop target. CBW takes a lot of heat, but I greatly like a couple of things about it. If Jack*Bot's Casino Run and/or Multiball (after the first big jackpot?) counted, they'd be easy picks for favorites. Of course these two are the majority of the game so maybe they shouldn't count. I like Frankenstein's quite a bit, except maybe that the letters on the outside that seem to usually be the last ones can be a little bit frustrating to hit. Ah Franky, someone really needs to hack your ROM and remove that damned 9,999M score limit. I'd love Rule the Universe, except that the required 5B is WAY too low. I don't think I've ever lost RTU, in TPA or in real life. I think it should be 10B (and award another 10B), at least for the second one on. A least favorite: Harley Davidson's. The one where you're supposed to get 48 states or something like that, but it's impossible to even come close, IIRC. Here's a non-TPA table: I don't remember Shadow's Final Battle (?) completely well, but I remember it being my all-time favorite in the brief time there was one near me, in 1995-6.
