Hall of Fame score reset to zero

why did this happen and how can i prevent it from happening again? this is the second time it has happened. first time i was over 9000, this time i had worked my way back over 6000. this is really discouraging. i have tried the save / restore buttons in the options menu to no avail. is there any way to restore my hall of fame score? the scores clearly still exist on farsight's high score servers. there OUGHT to be a way.
