Has FS ever talked to Sega and Capcom about doing some of their machines?

And in addition, who is the current owner of the Data East licenses and what are the odds to see some of their tables coming to TPA?

There was some very loose talk about a year or so ago about FarSight negotiating with the person who owns the license to Capcom's tables. Since then, we've heard nothing except fans wanting (as I do) Big Bang Bar.

Stern Pinball should be the owners of Sega Pinball, as Mr. Stern bought the rights to rename it Stern. Before Sega, it was known as Data East. Due to licensed properties, there's no telling how many (if any) of their tables will appear. The only one mentioned at any length has been Tales from the Crypt.

They have mentioned they have the rights to reproduce Data East and Sega tables by way of their Stern license and they do have the rights to do Capcom tables but the ability to do so on the platforms they currently have may present a challenge in emulating the roms for Capcom.

I doubt rom emulation is a problem. All those are already emulated through various platforms and sources. Mess implements a lot of CPU and Co-processor emulation and afaik sources are all available. All nowadays platforms should not have any problem running old cpu and co-processor code at all from that date and time

I think FS will love to reproduce tables from any manufacterer. Since they state their mission is 'to Preserve Pinball'.

The biggest issue with DE and Sega are the outside licenses. The last Sega games even ran on Whitestar, the same hardware the first modern Sterns ran on (World Poker Tour was the first to abandon it for SAM, a variant of which their machines still currently use), so emulation shouldn't be a problem, but licenses are.

The emulation guy has commented in the past that in many cases, the issue isn't getting it to run, it's getting it to run *at the right clock speed*.

If the clock speed is out in the emulation, the game code goes haywire. The platform power is there, sure, but emulating the clock speeds for older technology is sometimes harder that you'd think.

Seems like Sega would be cooperative, which... y'know would be fantastic. Jurassic Park or Ninja turtles would definitely make my month.

It's not up to Sega. When he said outside licenses you'd need Universal on board for Jurassic park, as well as whichever actors are on the table individually, and Crichton's estate. I'd say Jurassic Park is extremely unlikely to happen even with a kickstarter, sadly. Ninja turtles same deal except I have no idea who owns that stuff.

e: Actually I just remembered they already have CftBL, so they might have an in with Universal there. The problem is that Jurassic Park is probably several orders of magnitude more expensive as a license.

Currently I believe Ninja Turtles rights belong to Nickelodian.

Just as a data point, I would love to see (and pay for) all of Capcom's tables, especially Airborne and Kingpin. I'd rather see them than any of the tables by Sega, Data East, or Gottlieb/Premier/Mylstar.
