Have we been so accustomed ...

It seems that with each new release if it is tuned so that the replay value doesn't award an EB it is continually reported as a bug.

Have we, as players, become so accustomed to the game handing out the EBs like candy that when FS begins to add more challenge or realism to the game suddenly it is a bug?

I think it's more to do with the inconsistency of having some machines award an EB for replay/special and others awarding points or nothing at all. People see that and assume it's a bug.

They just need to be consistent. Suddenly doing something different throws ya off.
Reset the leaderboard and fix the extra balls on the old ones too.

i dunno a. ix in my mind is a good ideal the unending extraballs is a boon for the casual player, or anyone looking for some long play.

maybe the intrustions should contain a descrption of what the special awards

That would be a great first step.
I wouldn't even mind so much if the replay's didn't earn an EB, so long as it was consistent across all the settings.

The issue becomes a bit more "important" for casual play when you start to include Specials and regular EBs etc because those are things that the player usually has to work towards, somewhat.

Not only does the replay awarding need to be applied consistently, there also needs to be a consistency in regards to stacking EBs across platforms.
AFAIK not all platforms have the same settings when it comes to EBs and how many per ball/game. EATPM is one table that really stands out as being reported with having different settings per platform.

With EATPM, I believe someone from Farsight said that originally, they set it so you can stack extra balls, but they changed it before release because it was too easy. However on PS3, you can stack them. I think this is because they rushed it out on PS3 to have it released by Halloween. So maybe they submitted it before they decided to change this (before they submitted to apple.) So, this might be fixed in the mega patch.

I like the ideas of replays and specials giving extra balls. Why? Four words. Standard and Wizard Goals. People like myself find orselves obligated to clear these goals before truly enjoying the game. (Granted I always shoot for the wizard mode in a pin, but there are always other wizard goals that you REALLY have to go out of your way for.)

"Typically" I've heard most free play / home users set the replay to award an extra ball, from what I've heard. (That way, it's still an award but it's not a useless one :) ) Though some turn off extra balls altogether to make it harder.

I thought the replay not awarding the extra ball was a "bug" of sorts, eg it was an emulation issue that only affected the Gottlieb DMD pins.

This is why every table needs a difficulty option, with separate leaderboards for each option.

It needs to be done to keep the better players from getting bored and the below average players from getting frustrated enough not to buy any more tables. But can it be done without getting to deep into the profits?
But it is advertised as being exact recreations of the tables why make any changes.

How hard can it be to have different settings enabled for each mode?

Wish they would just add the difficulty options to new tables at least for now. The sooner they start, the less work it will be to go back and add it to older tables.

We do have pro mode, but the lack of a leaderboard is a turn off for sure.

saving random states in rom could cause so many issues (as far as tracking and scoring go)the team and us would end up over the cuccos nest.

but id hooe to see the papa mode for lack of a better term even if it would kick my arse
