My Dad Hates Pinball! (Gettysburg PA Trip Report)

So last week, my family went on a vacation to Washington, DC (that's why you haven't seen me doing any news posts lately). My family was planning to take me to at least 1 pinball location over the entire vacation, but that deal didn't turn out so well; we made a stop at Volleyball House but it was closed for the day, and I was planning to do something at the Satellite Room but it was open too late. So we eventually decided that I could go to a location when we were in Gettysburg PA... and so we did.

The location we went to was a pizza restaurant near a college. At first we weren't so sure there even were pinball machines there... they weren't anywhere to be seen out in the front... but as we were leaving I saw the familiar red tint of a Lord of the Rings and we went in to play. There was also a NASCAR - another one of my favorite machines - there, too, but more on that later... time to report!

- Lord of the Rings: So I honestly don't know why I did so poorly on this game before, because when I played it here I did ridiculously good. Despite not being able to activate any ring mode (I think it was due to weak ring ramp magnet) I ignored them and went straight for trying to Destroy the One Ring. I managed to get to both Fellowship and Two Towers Multiball (in a later game I managed to stack up Ring Frenzy with Gollum Multiball and Two Towers... truly a rush). Also Bash Balrog actually worked, reasonably well I might add. This is also the machine that taught my Dad to truly hate pinball... as soon as I got my first Jackpot during Fellowship the machine awarded me a free game and made the loudest match *pop!* I had ever heard in my life. Dad literally jumped up and I think the sound vibrated the room. Despite that shortcoming I still enjoyed the game thoroughly. TO WARRRRRRRRR!

- NASCAR: I have mentioned frequently on the forums that NASCAR is one of my favorite Stern machines of all time and I try to play ones near me whenever I can. Well, it turned out the Pizza House had one... and it was in OK shape. The car targets don't work (typical for most beaten up NASCARs) and at least once my ball got trapped after shooting the left ramp, but I nudged it and the ball came back out after a ball search. During both games I played on it I got extremely close towards multiball but I never did achieve it and make the GREEN GREEN GREEN flasher show it's stuff. Also the machine was a bit lighter than usual, at least once my ball bounced off one of the checkered flag targets and jumped on the right ramp's habitrail, but I did enjoy the machine - as I always did.

Your father hates pinball over a loud pop? Better keep him away from the Scary Maze... :p

I think you father should reconsider about his view on pinball since a loud, sudden sound (like the pop) can be from anywhere (like a car engine blow up or the pop of a balloon, all that kind of stuff, u know).

So I finally got back from DC and got to play some Ripley's Believe It or Not! at a rest stop in Charlton MA. It was in OK condition, many things weren't working but I still had a blast with it
