I agree, hitting the gate and drawbridge is easy. The drawbridge offers no problems either, it is only the gate. In order to eliminate all the castles one need to hit the gate some 20 times since it increases for each castle. Since there is a 30% risk of STDM on this, this pretty much means that you will lose 6-7 balls doing this. This pretty much means one has to do the troll-bounce-trick as squid mentioned or do it during multiball. I managed to destroy all castles after a while, by using the strategy I mentioned. When I was done I only had one or two balls left which was not enough to get all the remaining challenges done, unfortunately, so I didn't get to Epic Battle. This strategy, though, is quite boring. Feels like I have to use one glitch of the system (that it always comes down the same way) in order to conquer another glitch of the system. I can't see how one can finish this game with just normal skillful play, which is the case with all the other tables. Hope they will fix the bug with the flippers being too far apart in the next update. It would be great if they could do something about the "standard" ball routes as well.
