Yes, we are spoiled with these new modeling amps. When I was in school I remember my friends always putting money into having their amps fixed. Don’t get me wrong, a tube amp sounds spectacular, but for just playing at home they can be overkill. I play quietly in my living room most of the time, so a tiny solid state amp works really well for me. I was going to buy a Boss Katana 50, but the guitar tech at my local guitar center recommended trying the Yamaha as well. After five minutes I was hooked. So nice for quiet playing. I got the cheapest model (still $299 without my gift card) and I have zero complaints. But you definitely couldn’t gig with a drummer with it. It gets pretty loud, but not enough power for that imo. I never played the Fender GTX amps, but they seem very cool from what I have seen on YouTube. I also tried a Vox modeling amp (can’t remember the model) that sounded amazing too, that was probably my second choice. But the Yamaha was a little easier for me to dial in tones quickly. Guitar stores are a trap. You go in with a plan to buy something, try 10 different things, and end up with something that wasn’t even on your radar. Too much fun.
