hmmmmm, yeah we'll have to wait and see. I can honestly say though, I'm not paying to enter a tournament. Or at least that's my stance right now.

Ok my thoughts on tournament mode :
Pay per entry .
seems like a bad idea to me . unless FarSight gives away vouchers for free stuff to top 5 winners per console .
voucher for free digital content
Ball skins
table paks (which is not specified) so no chance that the tables are ones we bought already .
pro modes (again unspecified)
When you use "real money" to buy into things , the laws governing gambling kick into play , and state that you must actually sell something , and when you sell "chances" state and government gambling laws then apply. I really hope legal department at FarSight has looked into all ramifications of requiring players of this game buy into tournament modes , because this could violate gambling ordinances . You might want to change it to a monthly or annual premium service thing so it closer fits the pay for play model that bigger companies use. Or just offer it free like they expected .

Yikes, pay to play in a tournament? I know my scores aren't good enough to get into the top 10 (or 100) for a table, so why would I pay to enter something I know I'll lose? Sinistar brings up a good point about the legalities of it all, and I'll be sure to mention it to Bobby.
I would think that the tournaments should be used to promote the game, or at least promote new tables so people buy them.

To me it sounds more like buying an add on that allows you to participate in tournaments, rather than a pay per play deal.
The mode itself could be something like the tournament mode in P:HOF, so it's a big enough 'extra' that means that it counts as acceptable DLC.
I like the idea of giving us a barebones TPA and then allowing us to flesh it out depending on what requirements we need... but I do see a lot of complaining if there's a huge advertisement for another mode <_<

And in the end Roger Sharpe will have to bail us out again, proving that pinball isn't gambling ;-)

I had to learn this stuff in order to run sports tournaments that had a cash entry fee with cash and merchandise prizes. Every state has their own gambling laws. In states where they consider it gambling it is always illegal. In a few states it is a serious felony. Most states do not classify this as gambling as long as the activity is skill based. Now if you know anything about the history of pinball, you know that this opens up a whole big can of worms!
Based on this knowledge I'm going to say that surely they won't charge per tournament but instead charge one time for the tournament add-on in the form of DLC.
