This is the master issues list for Whirlwind. This thread is maintained to aid FarSight in exterminating gameplay bugs, art issues, and sound problems from WW.

This thread is locked to keep it clean and focused on actual issues, as opposed to opinions about such issues. Report art issues in the Art forum, and all other issues in a new thread in this table's forum. I will add newly-reported issues to this thread at regular intervals. In addition, each bug has a link to the thread it was reported in; discussion of bugs should take place there.

Latest Updates:

11 Sep 2013
  • Updated status of stuttering issue # 32-010 to Confirmed and clarified that it is only iPad 4 devices that are affected.
08 Aug 2013
  • Cellar lamp art issue # 32-501 and spelling issue # 32-502 are expected to be fixed next update.
02 Aug 2013
  • Added high score issue # 32-011.
16 Jul 2013
  • Added camera/stuttering issue # 32-010.
15 Jul 2013
  • Added spelling issue # 32-502.
  • Many issues have been fixed in iOS v1.2.11!

Status key:
  • New - Issues that are newly reported.
  • Unknown - Issues from a long time ago that have not been followed up in a while so that no one really knows what happened to them.
  • Confirmed / Open - Issues that either I've personally reproduced, that so many people have reported that the existence of the issue is not in doubt, and/or that members have posted a demonstration (like a YouTube clip) of the issue.
  • Acknowledged - Issues that have been acknowledged by FarSight, but for which no fix exists yet.
  • Fix Pending - Issues that have fixed by FarSight, but the fix is in testing or submission process and is not yet available to players.
  • Fixed - Issues that have been resolved by FarSight. Note that not all platforms receive bug fixes at the same time, so an issue that is "Fixed" may still be unresolved on some platforms.
  • Could Not Reproduce - Issues that were reported, but the issue has not been successfully reproduced.
  • Working as Designed - Issues that are bugs or quirks in the actual table, as well as other issues that result from design or licensing constraints.

GAMEPLAY ISSUES:

32-001: Playing Whirlwind may cause other tables to malfunction in various ways
First reported: 28 Jun 2013
Description: Playing Whirlwind, then attempting to play Dr. Dude, Elvira and the Party Monsters, Pin•Bot or Taxi may result in various sound and gameplay difficulties.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Fixed in iOS v1.2.11.

32-002: Super Cellar Door Award values are obscured by HUD
First reported: 28 Jun 2013
Description: The row of Super Cellar Door Awards on the backbox are obscured by the HUD, thus preventing the player from knowing which ones are collected and which one is currently flashing.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Fixed in iOS v1.2.11.
Note: You can only see the Super Cellar Door Award that is currently flashing - you'll need to remember the ones you've already collected.

32-003: Beating the Grand Champion score places your high score in the list twice
First reported: 28 Jun 2013
Description: If a player eclipses the Grand Champion score, his/her score is entered as both GC and High Score #1.
Devices: iOS, Android
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10, Android v1.15.0
Status: Acknowledged as of 28 Jun 2013.

32-004: Local top score increases if a higher score is achieved
First reported: 02 Jul 2013
Description: Beating the top local high score sometimes causes a new, greater high score to appear. This score is always exactly 4,000,000 points above the score just achieved.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Acknowledged
Notes: See also Issue # 23-002.

32-005: Replays and specials do not award an extra ball
First reported: 29 Jun 2013
Description: Replay awards nothing and special awards 100K, instead of both awarding an extra ball. This may be by design, but if so, it is inconsistent with the other tables in TPA.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Fixed in iOS v1.2.11.

32-006: Full plunge launches ball up 3 Toll ramp instead of through side loop
First reported: 11 Jul 2013
Description: Plunging fully causes the ball to launch up the 3 Toll ramp instead of through side loop (the one marked with the green arrow).
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Not sure whether this is actually a bug. Some real Whirlwinds can do this regularly.

32-007: Ball occasionally gets stuck on right ramp
First reported: 11 Jul 2013
Description: When shot up the right ramp, the ball may randomly get stuck in the ramp itself.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: New

32-008: Ball caught under upper flipper is forcibly pushed into the side of the table
First reported: 11 Jul 2013
Description: A ball caught underneath the upper flipper will be pushed into the side of the table as the flipper descends. Calling the attendant can retrieve the stuck ball.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: New

32-009: Whirlwind discs impart too much change to ball trajectory
First reported: 11 Jul 2013
Description: A ball dropped onto the right disc that is spinning may be caught, held, and thrown clear across the table (sort of like the magnet-assisted disc in X-Men). Even when the discs are off, the ball may get hung up on the right disc in an unrealistic fashion.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Confirmed in v1.2.10, may be fixed in iOS v1.2.11.
Note: I am waiting for more reports to come in re the discs before deciding whether this issue can be called "fixed" or not.

32-010: Stuttering occurs when playing with unlocked camera
First reported: 15 Jul 2013
Description: If the current camera is unlocked, the table stutters when the camera pans.
Devices: iPad 4
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.11 - iOS v2.7.1
Status: Confirmed, open as of 11 Sep 2013.

32-011: Scores over 100 million not handled properly
First reported: 01 Aug 2013
Description: When a player scores 100 million or more, the local high score list cuts off the digit in the 100M place, although it is placed in the correct position in the list. Subsequent scores, however, will beat that high score if the new score is more than the truncated value of the old score.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v2.6.0
Status: Confirmed, open as of 02 Aug 2013
Notes: See linked thread for further details.

ART ISSUES:

32-501: Red and yellow light housings above cellar holes should be frosted
First reported: 11 Jul 2013
Description: The indicated lamps should have frosted housings, not transparent ones.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: To be fixed in iOS v2.7.0.

32-502: Spelling error on playfield
First reported: 15 Jul 2013
Description: The text above the three arrows that lead to the 3 Toll ramp reads "Ramp Sports Target" instead of "Ramp Spots Target"
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.11
Status: To be fixed in iOS v2.7.0.

SOUND ISSUES:

32-601: Spinning discs are too loud
First reported: 28 Jun 2013
Description: The spinning discs, when active, are very loud relative to other table sounds.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Fixed in iOS v1.2.11.
Notes: Some real Whirlwinds have very loud discs, so technically this wasn't a bug. However, these discs were loud enough to detract from enjoyment of the game.

32-602: Making a loop shot plays an extremely long sound sample
First reported: 28 Jun 2013
Description: Making either orbit shot plays a sample of excessive length that sounds like an alien spacecraft powering down.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Fixed in iOS v1.2.11.

32-603: The "Uh oh! Looks like rain!" sound sample does not play at start of game
First reported: 28 Jun 2013
Description: Whirlwind is supposed to play the indicated sound sample at the start of a new game, but it doesn't.
Devices: iOS
TPA Version: iOS v1.2.10
Status: Fixed in iOS v1.2.11.
