Fish Tales vs. Terminator 2

Which game do you pinball players think is better: Terminator 2 or Fish Tales?

They have a lot of similarities. For instance, the captive ball awards are quite similar to the Escape Route awards on T2. The Caster's Club is a lot like the skull on T2. Even Multiball is like on T2! And the overall highest scoring potential in the game is stacking up Rock the Boat + Feed Frenzy + Multiball, just like the Payback Time strategy in T2!

Despite this, I like Fish Tales a bit better. While I praise T2 for it's inane manliness, I like FT for its great jokes, original "fishing" multiplier (Uh, you're not going to eat that, are ya?), and the music. Sure, banjo music may make some people feel dumb... But I think it's the perfect match for this game. What are your opinions?

My vote went for T2. I just seem to never get anything going on FT. I don't know if it's the layout or the lightning flippers but my games are too short to enjoy. Both have music and art that I like and both themes are good. Maybe it's the flow of T2 that does it for me.

never played any of them in real pinball, just T2 on TPA... So, guys from TPA gives us fishtales so I can compare and answer this question ^^

In my brief encounter with Fish Tales, I didn't like it at all, so this is an easy vote for me. : D

I have played both at Papa this year.

T2 is so, so, soo so so much fun in real life. An absolute classic. I could not be pulled away from it, and spent a good portion of my time there with it. The pinball arcade version is good, but the real thing is just one of the best pinballs I've ever played. Nothing is more satisfying than hitting that super jackpot in real life. Such an addrenaline charged masterpiece.

PAPA has 1 Fish Tales and, to be quite honest, I didn't enjoy it at all. Granted I didn't spend much time with it, and in fact it seemed like noone was spending any time with it. 4 T2's and Drac's right next to each other, and people were always on them, but the lone Fish Tales I saw maybe one or two people play it all day. Anecdotal of course, I'm sure people played it, and it has much love on these forums no doubt, but I'm just stating what I observed.

But anyways. The lightning flippers which feel oh soo right on Dracula feel ohh soo wrong on Fish Tales. It's a draino monster. It's almost like the game was not designed for these flippers at all, unlike Dracula. It just has a bad feel to it, no flow, not very fun at all for me. I am still looking forward to the Pinball Arcade release, since Pinball Arcade titles I can love in the game but hate in real life, and vice versa.

FT is definately love on second sight. I hated it. It was annoying. Then I saw Bowen's tutorial (http://vimeo.com/24754299), tried a few of his combos, and bang! the machine had a new fan. The flow is incredible, once you have it. Boat, boat monster fish is extremely satisfying.
The better I get in real life, the more I like it. I own one now, and had the chance to trade it for a P2000, but I refused to. Not sure, if I'll ever sell or trade it.

On a side note, it must be one of the best work from Chris Granner (beside Bride of course)

At Captain, did you do this on purpose. Because T2 was desined by Steve Ritchie, and Fishtales was desined by his brother Mark Ritchie. I was just fascinated by that, well anyway I went with Fishtales, I actually like T3 better then T2. I told Steve that on Facebook, he said I understand because theirs more to do on T3. Well that's my two cents, Fishtales is my winner, so let's see this game soon packed with Rescue 911 from Gottlieb and I would be very happy.

True, but there are really only a hand full that stay interesting. WCS94, LOTR, RBION, MB come to my mind, and weird enough Wizard of Oz. The new Star Trek is also quite attracting, but I can't say yet if it stays interesting. Maybe for me a great design is a combination of easy shots and hard ones with a lot of risk involved

In any case your mileage vary (a lot)

I think Star Trek: TNG has enough to do on it to stay interesting as well, and Attack From Mars is simple table with a lot to do.

Providing Fish Tales is without the lightning flippers, I prefer it. I love the ball flow on T2 much more, but with those rules and that annoying cannon shot, I can't rate it higher..

No, it's a bit of a time investment, but as soon as you know the shots, it's a greatly varied table with a lot of fun in it. And it has Picard and Data soundbytes

I had not played either in real life but I agree T2 is not fun on TPA. Just no flow to it.

Since I finally played Fish Tales (TPA) I finally got to vote. And I voted Fish Tales.

Honestly, I've never been that nuts about T2 anyway, it's not a terrible table or anything but it doesn't wow me like some others.

Fish Tales is a great use of a theme, great use of the DMD, a fun layout and a great game overall. Flow is completely up to the player.

Fish tales for me. Like most mark Ritchie tables it has that figure 8 ramp but this design made better use of that gimmick with the u turn and captive ball. T2 has some innovative tricks that also stunt the flow of that game and it is a real beast to rack up a great score without relying too heavily on the right loop shot.
