The video mode on High Speed 2 could be made a LOT better by Zen - I could see it working something like the APC driving minigame from their Aliens table. The video mode in HS2 is ... kind of crummy. And that's recognizing that it is one of the better video modes in pinball.
That's really good to know. Sounds like an opportunity for Farsight to secure another license that has a lot of good tables - whoever holds this one might be more willing to sell the rights.
There's definitely a market for a platform that has modern Sterns, Data Easts, combined with Gottlieb...
There must be something strange with the Flight 2000 license - I mean, it's the only Stern Electronics game in all of TPA (unless I am mistaken), and it was clearly deliberately left out of SPA. Maybe Stern Electronics rights are shared with some entity outside of Stern, who are blocking it or...
We have a Fish Tales on location in Madison, it's a really fast and difficult game. The TPA version is actually one of TPA's tougher and more realistic games, but in real life the shots are even tighter. I really hope Zen doesn't nerf the tables - or if they do, give us the ability to turn on...
After reading Chris' (excellent) article on This Week in Pinball, it occurs to me that the loss of the license could definitely have been influenced by Farsight's recurring QC issues - that Scientific Games was aware that Farsight had some quality (and potentially pricing) issues that they...
oh man, I would so love to have the option of real physics on Zen tables! It could give a whole new life to some of the super slow/easy/floaty tables, like Droids. And having this as an option for tournaments could really add a lot of interest/new life to some of the old designs.
Farsight is definitely a small company, and it shows. And they have never had a focus on doing formal software QA - they could have invested in QA automation years ago and had automated checks for changes that break old tables; it sure looks to me (as a professional software engineer) like they...
I still really like the idea that Chris and Jared discussed on an old episode of the podcast where there are monthly leaderboards, and the "legacy" leaderboards get archived. The whole handling of the leaderboards has historically been of very low importance to Farsight, so I wouldn't expect...
I'm enjoying Woah Nellie in the demo version - it plays smoothly, and it's actually got a bit of strategy (get the ball back up to the top to light the bumpers, and of course shoot for whatever target is lit for 200 points). It has a somewhat similar feel to Fireball with the stubby flippers...
Two new releases this weekend and they have fairly obvious bugs, at least on Android - Woah Nellie has the high scores list messed up (lowest high score is set at 100,000 which is completely unattainable in this game, but the demo high score limit triggers at around 1500 points), and for both...
That's interesting, I hadn't thought about this. At the end of the day it's a business decision. If Farsight can produce high quality Stern reproductions like they have (eventually) been able to deliver on Star Trek, AC/DC, Mustang and Ghostbusters, and if they are able to have it be profitable...
When I first saw the tables that were on the list to be released first by Zen, I was a little disappointed in HS2 and JY being on the list. Then I realized, the reason I don't care for these tables is the fact that they are two of the tables that are tuned _WAY_ too easy in TPA - I'm really...
It all depends on how the licensing was worked out at Stern. I would say it is probable that when they negotiated the rights to Deadpool they also negotiated the rights to the digital version; the only thing that would prohibit this is if Zen got an exclusive license for digital pinball when...
TPA is an amazing accomplishment, and definitely my favorite mobile game of all time. Nearly all of the tables have something to offer. The team there is clearly a great group of talented people - I think they were shackled by an aged code base and an apparent lack of formal software QA, tied to...
The muscular, sweaty, shirtless rock star playing the tenor saxophone is something that was awesome for only a brief period in the 80s - we are not likely to see it rise in popularity again.
+1 for the Lost Boys soundtrack - it's pretty much the perfect 80s movie soundtrack - INXS, Roger Daltrey, Echo & the Bunnymen covering "People are Strange". Heavy on the DX-7, whammy-bar guitars, and blistering sax solos. So so good.
I'm also afraid to watch the movie again, I can see it not...
On iOS I have found it nearly impossible to tell if the songs on the jukebox are lit as well - the difference between lit and not lit is almost imperceptible on my iPad, I imagine on a phone it would be indistinguishable.
I have reported the "instant info doesn't work" bug at least three times...
I like this movie a lot too (although to be fair I have not seen it in probably 15 years). But I remember it being a lot of fun. Surprisingly, I thought it was the most accurate version of Dracula, it actually follows the book fairly closely, certainly in spirit. The novel is a true classic in...
I have both TPA and SPA installed, Ghostbusters runs much smoother (and looks better) in the SPA app. Looks like the changes that they made when porting it into TPA messed with performance.
I have not done a comparison with the other tables. This is on an iPad Air 1.
You can google the pattern for the Star Trek TNG video mode, the tunnel is always the same - this helped me get past that goal. Of course starting it is sometimes non-trivial.
The standard goal that I am stuck on and think is the hardest is the video mode on Champion Pub, the spittoon one. It...
