Disappointing table.

I think this table is really bland, boring to play and the design is really ugly. Is just me?
I'm blown away by Adamn's Family, T2 and White Water for example, so it's difficult for me to put Cyclone in the same package.

Just depends on your preferences and nostalgia for it. TPA is always going to have an issue with highly anticipated tables being disappointing to the rest because they are fairly old and unimpressive when compared to newer creations.

I wouldn't say Cyclone is my favorite (the table art is my only real issue with it, as I feel like they could have done some really cool stuff with that theme), but I like what it does and have no issues with it being part of TPA or Season 4. I play pinball tables with the intention of not comparing one to another. Once you do that you'll never want to play EMs/etc. because they just can't compare in complexity or pizazz as more modern DMD-focused tables. Like them for what they are and for the era they came out in... that's my philosophy at least! After all, comparing a water wheel to a hydro electric dam just isn't fair to either.

The mobile port doesn't do the table justice. This is one where you really need all the bells and whistles of light and sound. Also doesn't help that the playfield is gray and the ramps don't seem fully rendered.

To me it's one of the best playfields. Maybe it's just memories of playing it as a kid. But I dug that it was a giant amusement park.

I have a lot of nostalgia for "Cyclone". I was a young whipper snapper when "Comet" was released IRL. I still remember the time when I first completed the ramp enough times to score a million points at once. Pretty big deal to me at the time.

When "Cyclone" came out, it still had the Comet ramp and all the extra things added excitement to the game. IMHO it is the best machine built without a multi-ball function. I thought the Ferris Wheel toy was a pretty neat thing the first time I saw the real machine.

I can however see those that do not have nostalgia for the machine would be disappointed in TPA's recreation as you would the machine in real life. I think FarSight did a bang-up job in the creation of this table for Steam.

I really enjoy the Cyclone art package. I think it's much easier to appreciate in person. Lots of little details when you look at it closely. Not nearly as interesting to look at in a digital version.

I'm totally with Frank on his ferris wheel comment. My friends and I really loved that toy when we first played it.

Me too.
I always enjoyed the "Where's Waldo" thing of the playfield.

I have to admit, my 5 minute assessment of the table was just that - it was disappointing.

I admit, after playing a few games, it's grown a bit on me. Still not a favorite, but at least it wasn't so disappointing. I don't think it'll be my number one table, but maybe it's not as bad as I thought it was.

Yeah, I am convinced peoples love for this table is nostalgic. It's not terrible but I don't see what is so great. Addams Family is a hard act to follow and I like it better than most of the tables this season (there have been some real stinkers this season) but I don't see why people talk about this table like it is one of the greats. Art design is not attractive, no multi-ball in a table from the late 80's is not acceptable, and it's not a table that plays well wild. I am not a fan of always trapping and shooting, I like just keeping the ball bouncing. If this table from from the 70's that would be one thing but by 1989 standards this table is just meh.

I've wanted to play this table for the longest time. One of the casinos near me has it (along with Space Shuttle) hanging on their wall (literally, suspended there vertically). Definitely not the most interesting table, and I don't imagine I'll dedicate too much time to it, but it should be a nice one to fit into a rotation.

I like the art. Sort of like a still-life diorama, a nice change from the usual collage-style.

The table art with the gray and mix of people is rather ugly to me also, but the gameplay is there - it's just missing multiball stuff. The audio isn't bad.

Also missing the MB but liking the tight ramp shots in combination with the timers, that takes skill and if you get the flow going it's a good feeling. Another thing that could have been implemented better is how the Cyclone jackpot is handled. I think it's just silly to up the jackpot with 5K per rollover if I read the rulesheets correctly. That's a lot of rollovers to get (back) to 4M.....
This game could use a Bride of Pinbot 2.0-style workup with the P-Roc DMD. Only trouble will be that Bride could already handle MB on it's own, Cyclone would need hardware adjustments for that. Still a nice project if I think about it, sadly no skills to go with that...

The first time I ever played Cyclone, I assumed you could lock balls in the ferris wheel for multiball. I'm reminded of this everytime I throw a ball in there. Still wish you could.

One thing I'm having a hard time with cyclone is seeing the red lights on the 1-2-3 rollovers on top of the playfield. I do have a slight red/green color deficiency so I'm not sure if others have the same issues. I don't have that issue on any other game on TPA. The game is very nostalgic for me, remember seeing it and playing it as a teenager. As a side note, anyone recognize the couple in front of the rollercoaster on the backglass? Nancy and Ronald Reagan. To each their own, but I find it enjoyable to play, I can understand those who prefer a different type of game.

Apart from Addams Family none of the season 4 tables have interested me.
Definately season 3 has been better in my book

Heh that's what you do in Hurricane, seems you weren't alone in that thought. Would be interesting to know if that was the original intent.

Comparing Cyclone to TAF,T2 and WH2O is unfair. Cyclone is a single-ball alphanumeric (and there aren't many of those), and will appeal to nostalgic pinball lovers.

This will get passed over by many (or anyone who didn't get the season pass), and the number one reason it isn't liked is lack of multiball.

It's a very unique pin that deserves a place in TPA, and Comet (its predecessor) will probably make it onto TPA sometime.

I actually like this one more than I did back then. It is quite a challenge, a lot of easy shots are worthless if you don't do something else (usually risky) before that. The artwork is great, sound also. I don't miss multiball. Better not have one then have useless one like in THE table of the season 4. I think that as time will pass I'll be returning to this one more often then to TAF.

I hadn't played Hurricane until just a few years ago. Made me laugh when I played it. Wondered the same thing about if it was the original intent on Cyclone.

Yeah, I second that. I wonder if they have just ran out of decent tables? POTO is just awful. And the rest of the tables have been real duds with the obvious exception of Addams Family. I don't really care for Cyclone but it is better than Earthshaker, Party Zone and Starship Troopers. All but Addams family have been below average to poor in my book.

I think season 4 is quite well done so far. To be fair we can never expect titles like we had in seasons 1 through 3 without licensed tables. I'm not a fan of TPZ, but others are. Taste in pinball tables is really subjective most of the time. POTO is fine imo, I just wish they can fix the game crashing when posting a top score... It makes me worry about future Data East releases too. The other tables all have some fun and interesting things going on. And we finally got TAF! Cyclone is a nice addition. Those tight ramps and timers are sweet. And it's a table that doesn't take forever to play. Hard is good! Audio gets old after a while but all in all I enjoy it. Physics and graphics are overall better than season 1+2 tables.
