I was thinking, with the new UI, it would be nice to be able to sort tables by Manufacturer, Chronology, Table Type (EM, SS) and Designer in addition to the current Alphabetical listing. I think this helps put the history of pinball in context and would suit the museum-like aspirations of TPA.

Given the mockups that have been showed in a previous TPA newsletter (#41), it doesn't seem there's such menu option to sort the tables, but rather a simple season and table packs sorting (that's already a BIG improvement!).

But who knows...

EDIT:

Time for a bump :) - From today's newsletter:

"We announced two Christmases ago that we were working on User Interface 2.0 for The Pinball Arcade. We know the fans have been waiting, and we know how you feel!

We are very proud to announce that a much improved and highly functional User Interface 2.0 is finally on the way!

These aren't just mock-ups either, they are screenshots of the new UI running in-game!

We will be rolling this functionality out to select platforms in the coming months!"

Ooh, never spotted that random button before. That will be a lot of fun.

However, I doubt we'll see this new UI on PS3. Maybe when I get a PS4...

EDIT:

That's the new UI we've been promised? That looks awful. Does Farsight not employ a graphic designer? This looks like a 90s PC game. So ugly...

And you're implying that we're LOSING the ability to see the tables Alphabetically? That's a step back to me, now I have to remember what season the table I want is in. What good is sorting by table pack? Also, backglass art >>> logo on silverball...

Not liking those screens one bit.

As much as it's really impractical for such a huge collection of tables now, I actually really liked the original UI. Having the full-screen image of each machine to scroll through looked really nice.

Yup, when the mockups were showed for the first time 2 years ago (the guy who was in charge of the new UI left Farsight, and the new UI project stayed pending for a long time), many people complains about how it looks ugly, 90's DVD style.

It can be OK for a tiny mobile screen (and IMO, it has been designed for it), but for people who plays on a large screen, it will be awful.

For my part, I know almost by heart the table release calendar (thanks to the scorecard in my signature). So, I like the sorting by table pack. Maybe there's a hidden filter that allows to sort tables by alphabetical order though.

For the backglass art and table pics now missing, totally agree. But maybe once again, there's a sub-menu screen not showed on these mockups which still diplays the nice table pics like in the current UI.

I just don't understand why this UI is something we're supposed to be excited for. I'm completely fine with the clunky but functional mess we have now. This looks like a lateral move at best, but I actually think it might be worse. Have they not seen modern game UI? Do they honestly see their own images and think "yeah, this looks like something made in 2015."

It just goes to show you that good UI takes much more thought and consideration than most people give it credit for. This looks like a template file. Farsight, look at modern web design and graphic arts magazines please.

Oh god, I just took a closer look at the TPA logo in the first screen... hey Farsight, do you think you used enough colors around the edgy skull? Maybe you should throw on a few lense flares...
