This table was originally designed to be a Legend of Zelda table.  Then Gottlieb was negotiating a license with American Gladiators and ordered the team to make it an "American Gladiators" table.  But the licensing deal fell through, and management ordered the team to relabel it a generic "Gladiators" and get it out the door.

Like so many Gottliebs of this era, the rules, theme, and design bear no relation to one another.
