Just curious how it is humanly possible to get some of the high scores shown on various leaderboards. For example, I feel victorious if I get 200,000+ on "Big Shot." But 87 million?! Having played the game for quite a while now, knowing what a drain monster it is, etc.... Am I that lousy a player? I mean, if these scores are legit, I bow down.

They are not legit. In most cases. Definitely in this case, though. This has been covered in many threads past.

There were bugs in earlier versions of TPA where high scores from one table somehow managed to get into the leaderboards of other tables. A lot of these were cleaned up, but there may still be some lingering. There are also some tables where there is a known score rollover glitch (RBION most prominent among them) that can add prodigious amounts to scores, or in some cases (CftBL) make your score far less than what it actually is.

Some score are just plain hacks, though. Anything not ending in a "0" that isn't on Central Park for instance - there is a 999,999,999 high score on Fun House, though there are 1B+ scores there that are almost certainly legit.

problem is no one has any idea how prevalent the hacking is or how many huge scores are a result of bugs/quirks.......................personally I've lost all confidence in the leaderboards. I don't bother with any except for personal + friends.

It's a shame Farsight studios have shown so little interest in the leaderboards. Scoring is such a massive part of pinball and really should be taken more seriously.

I and some other people have done a fair bit of work to get a pretty good idea of whether the top scores are legit.

Mike, is anything proactive being done on Farsights side for preventing the hacks or are you just relying on the public reporting these?
The ridiculous scores are easy to spot , but no way to know if some of the closer scores are legit or not.

Also will we ever get platform filters on the leaderboards? Is there a technical reason why this can't be done?

I don't think this is quite true. Most of the top ten scores are from players that are known to be legit.

Maybe you can post some specific scores that you're unsure of?
