New from E3

New xbox 360 with little xbox one design and 2 complete free games every month with xbox-live goldmember. (first games Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2)

Wow. Because what 360 owner didn't already have Halo 3? That's like owning a Nintendo and not having anything Mario.

Enjoyed watching some of the live feeds, although didn't see anything that blew me away. Blu Ray will be nice to have but will wait for a price drop. Given Kinect is mandatory this time I've not seen anything yet to make it worth while. They badly need a killer kinect title between now and launch day.

No Half life exclusive either :(

We were promised games that would help to define a new generation of console gaming, but instead what little innovation shown was buried underneath a flurry of gunfire and buzzword-infused hyperbole.

Little over 3 1/2 hours and we'll see how this all shakes out. I still doubt Sony will announce a price yet though.

I didn't see it, but apparently this happened:

Jack shoulda just dropped the mic and walked off stage with that announcement.

No used game restrictions, no mandatory online, no mandatory PS Eye, and a hundred bucks cheaper?

Damn, game over.

However, I do realize there WILL be a version for sale with the eye that'll cost the same as Xbone. There might even be an uber expensive model packed with a Vita (which actually would be very smart). Also, I'm bummed that online multiplayer won't be free anymore. I know PS+ is an excellent service (I've tried it), just not for me and the way I play. Finally, yes it's a black box, but at least there's a modicum of design to it! Actually looks a lot like a PS2, which I much prefer to the curved dome of the PS3 (because you could never stack anything on top of it!).

I'm really glad the Eye isn't included, that means we won't have awful obligatory Eye segments in every game--like they did with motion control at the beginning of PS3. ; P

So I get a faster machine (cause 50% better gpu and DDR5), without intrusive DRM for LESS money?
Jaw dropped...

I'm not a Microsoft guy to begin with. After fixing my 360 once and it lasting for another year I was done with them. So, all Mac stuff here along with a PS3 but, keeping an open mind, with that hundred dollar more price point and the "scare" that they've put into people with Kinect "watching" along with DRM will really hurt Microsoft come this fall.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 360 as my current gen "crossplatform" machine for games like Bioshock, Skyrim etc, and I (used to) like what XBLA did.

However, I tend to like the Sony exclusives much more (Ratchet, GOW3, Everything Naughty Dog, Team ICO and turnbased (J)RPG's), so couple that with less capable gamefocussed hardware and ****ing up both their Indie-relationship, their DRM AND the fact they can't get their own message across WITH a 25% higher pricepoint and Sony made my choice really really easy this time compared to 8 years ago.

PS4 is region free too. Sony just keep on delivering knock-out blows.

I haven't had a PS since PS2 and I'm currently on my second 360, but I am loving this. Anyone with an unbiased passion for video games must surely appreciate what Sony are doing here.

Good on them.

Heads need to roll at Microsoft and the whole Xbox One fiasco should be pulled. They seriously need to re-consider launching this thing at all.

Many of us thought that PS+ was going to be Sony's transition to online pay to play. I think Sony needs this. Online multiplayer is one area that the PS3 was lacking in quality of infrastructure. I think Sony having paying customers for this service will enable them to spend more money supporting the infrastructure needed. It also paves the way for a more consistent experience for the gamer.

How much ya wanna bet that Microsoft will do a 180 (see what I did) and change their mind on their direction for the Xbox1? Sure PS4 has it's issues, like with backwards compatibility and PSN transfers, but Xbox, dang, it's got problems.

Does that mean you'll need PS+ for TPA leaderboards or just online friends?

Hmmmm, good question. I'd argue that online multiplayer is completely different than online leaderboards, but most games that have leaderboards have true multiplayer too, unlike TPA which has none.

Everyone is so stoked for the used game ability and no online for single player games that it would seem all is forgiven for no backwards compatibility of PSN transfers! That's some good slight of hand misdirection right there. Shoot, most people are so happy, they're not even phased by having to pay for online gaming with PS4.

In a weird way, I almost think Sony wants you to have the PS3, Vita, and PS4 all in use in one form or another in conjunction with each other. Them saying that PS+ carries over to everything, the Vita being able to essentially bridge the gap of PSN content between PS3 and PS4...

I usually thought of new consoles like walking down a hallway into an airlock. The door opens, and for a brief moment the air you breath is that of the old and new. Quickly the door shuts though, and now you walk forward to the next airlock (generation of console). With this press conference, it feels instead like you are just in a big room, with multiple airlocks that you are expected to go in, but come right back to the big room. Strange analogy, I know.

Sony killed it last night. The "lending" video was absolutely hilarious. I had a friend over to watch the presentation, and he hadn't followed the XBone news to know why everyone was clapping so much last night, "Dude, why are they clapping for something that's standard on all consoles like being able to lend a friend a game?!"
