Old Stern FTW

So far, we've only gotten one Stern table in TPA, with one more confirmed on the way. But with recent Stern tables running SAM and tied up in high-dollar licensing, it seems like FarSight could start to hit a wall with Stern additions very soon, unless they delve into the backlog of Old Stern tables between 1977 and 1982.

Don't get me wrong. I like the 21st century Stern tables, but I have a real soft spot for some of their decades-old classics, too. Obviously, there were quite a few, but deciding which ones are good enough to go into TPA is a different story.

What do you think? Are any of these 30+ year old tables worth revisiting, or should FarSight just focus on getting the licenses for new Stern machines?

The oldest Stern I want is Striker XTreme (World Cup 94 would be better, but if we can't get that, Striker X is a decent consolation prize).

Another vote for SeaWitch , I thought it would only be me , after seeing it in action on some guys Youtube video of 40 classic pinballs , that one stuck out among the oldster tables. Most of these I have no clue about .

Seawitch is the only one I've played.

Apollo 13 is technically Sega, but you're right, the 13-ball multiball is insane, especially if you do like I did and started multiball without first paying attention to the lights on the backbox.

Well, we'll get a taste of button mashing soon enough...Twilight Zone's "Lost in the Zone" is a timed 6-ball multiball (and one of those balls is the not-quite-normal Powerball).

Iron Maiden has fantastic art. Some of the others do too. Viper has possibly the most awesome backglass ever on a pin. Very Sorayama.
Anyway, voted for Iron Maiden, Sea Witch, Stingray, Quicksilver, and Viper. Most old pins don't do that much for me play-wise, but as an "art person", there are some fantastic looking pins from this era, from all the companies. Paragon kills in that department. So does Gottlieb's Amazing Spider-man. And Hankin's The Empire Strikes Back table. So many more.

Catacomb is an all-time fav amongst the old-school tables, mainly because of its insane play speed, complex but rewarding scoring system, and a challenging multiball. But the beautiful backglass with an inlaid bagatelle game as a bonus multiplier really makes the game unique.

I've had a book about robots way back in the 80s when I was little, and it was full of airbrush paintings like these. I have a soft spot for this particular style

I could not have foreseen Seawitch getting the most votes, but anyone who has played it in real life would probably agree. Along with Catacomb and Galaxy, I hope FS sees fit to make it a priority. I wonder how hard it is to get those machines nowadays.
