Plunger Strength, Has it Been Changed?

To me it looks like the plunger is over-engineered on the PS3 and uses the speed of the analog stick to determine the power of the plunger. This is a nice detail but totally superfluous. A simple touchpad like plunger is enough and would avoid all the headache.
