Anybody remember these? As far as I can tell, they are not highly rated online, but I had fun on them in my youth. :)

(I'm referring to the SO76 with the hole in the middle of the playfield & the Old Chicago with the doors that open & close)

Edit: maybe I'm disremembering those sliding doors on Old Chicago, don't see them on the IPD listing.

Also, does anyone remember the Playboy pinball machine that would show pics when you reached a certain score or goal? IPD shows some Playboy machines, but I don't see the one that had the pic screen strategically placed where it would show the pics, making you lose the ball, haha.

My uncle has an Old Chicago. Never played his, but I've played one at a pinball convention. Not bad, but I'm far from an expert on older machines.

Played 'em both and they're both great. As for not being highly rated, I'd say they rate very well for pins of that era. With pinball at its popularity peak at the time, there were sooooo many different machines being produced...so for a pin to stand out and be remembered, it had to be good and both of these were.

Spirit of 76 is so important to the history of pinball that it belongs in TPA. It sold 14,000+ units in the various versions (including Pioneer and New York.) The latter celebrated the return, after decades, of legal pinball to NYC.

I agree with Jeff that both pins are rated high for their era.
