Stern is notorious for often throwing random stuff on their website, both pictorially and via status updates. Over the last year I can remember seeing everything from Iron Maiden, some Zombie and some vampire thing (not sure which licenses), Justice League, GI Joe, even Elvira, Freddy and Monster Bash. They also solicit things like asking for favorite comic/video game character, etc.

This is an animated gif of the new Godzilla someone made from still shots illegally taken from the Godzilla Experience at SD Comic-Con.

To me, sounds like a focus group impromptu to see what is more popular. :D

Yeah, this could be really good! I'm not a big Godzilla/Kaiju fan, but I never got the point of the original American "Godzilla", it seemed like it was deliberately trying to do everything wrong.
One thing I think is really terrible to leave out, but I can understand why the industry wants it that way (the new one is doing it as well), is how Godzilla is essentially a stab at USA's horrible bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

People get uncomfortable with things:

To emphasise the monster's relationship with the atomic bomb, its skin texture was inspired by the keloid scars seen on Hiroshima's survivors

There is some awareness of the Original roots of Godzilla in underground pop culture, but it's played off as Juvenille
Here comes Godzula to stomp on Tokyo.
Awakened, nuclear test, he rises, sub-zero.
His roar fills you with terror.
The very earth he'll break.
Man has screwed up once again and
God has sealed our fate.

That part of the 1998 film never bothered me. It was the combination of the comedy elements, the "babies",and the fact that Godzilla looked nothing even close to what it should have. That film lost at the box office,IMO,mostly because an overgrown lizard does not make it Godzilla.

Of course,it doesn't hurt that I happen to know one of the biggest and well known Godzilla fans on the planet. :)

Well, 1998 American Godzilla was a classic run-of-the-mill American disaster movie, it wasn't just the theme, babies and comedic elements. It didn't really have anything in common with Godzilla other than that a big monster was present. :p

Supposedly the new movie is also going to have a totally serious tone, which I think will turn out interesting considering they are also going to have three giant monsters fighting eachother. :9

Even in Japan the series changed emphasis over time. If you've ever seen the original 1954 movie, in its original Japanese edit (pre-Raymond Burr), it's a surprisingly serious film with well-drawn characters and pointed moral dilemmas; the nuclear-bombing theme is obvious there, and it also doesn't shrink from showing how much human damage and grief Godzilla is causing.

Starting with "King Kong vs. Godzilla," though, they start to get goofier and more child-oriented. After that, there are all these plots in which alien invaders are mind-controlling the monsters, and Godzilla sometimes gets portrayed as the hero, does silly victory dances and such.

Some of the movies in the later revival series went for a more serious vibe, though.

I believe Emmerich didn't like the original Godzilla.

"Roland Emmerich admitted that he did not like the original Godzilla movies - he only agreed to the project after being promised to be able to do what ever he wanted with the series. " - IMDB

Don't you love Hollywood doing this kind of @$#%. >.>

That's okay...I don't think most people like Roland Emmerich. His movies are always awful. Stargate and Universal Soldier are the only two movies I can think of that he wrote or directed where I don't hate every minute spent watching it.

Dean Devlin, though, produced Leverage, which is a pretty entertaining show. He seems to blame himself for the Godzilla movie, says the script was the problem.

A while ago Stern had a picture of Superman also on their facebook site. All the talk of monsters is fun but since I do not know how to have fun I will just say that I am pretty sure the next one will be Star Trek and since Stern has had great success with music pins there will probably be a Iron Maiden or Kiss pin next year but that still leaves room for a monster pin after that next year. Could be interesting if they chose to do one

PS! Is the new Star Trek movie any good?

I actually hope they DON'T release an Iron Maiden pin...solely for the fact that I am a die hard Iron Maiden fan and would be depressed that I would never be able to play it (not even a sniff of a pinball machine where I live, and while I could afford to buy one if I really wanted to, I live in a condo, thus not much room and probably too loud for a condo).
