@wolfson you need to calm down dude. I know this is the random thoughts thread but the way you've been conducting yourself in this thread is well and truly in breach of the forum rules.

Take a break from this thread for a while mate. Otherwise I'll need to dust off the moderator tools and make you take a break for a little while.

I've deleted or heavily redacted all the other horrible posts. Please don't do this again, OK.

You sure know how to ruin a lively conversation Jared

lol... this wasn't much of a "conversation." The moderators should probably remove the ability of the Other Talk forum posts from populating on the home page of the site anyway so everything there stays on point with the purpose of the site.

Or you can just ignore the threads that don’t interest you.

Or you can just ignore the threads that don’t interest you.

The front page has a "Recent Forum Posts" widget that populates the last 5/6 posts from across all forums. There are/were a couple of members that would make many immediate successive posts of music videos and random youtube links among other things (like the recently moderated stuff from the previous few pages). This kind of makes it impossible to ignore the Random Thought thread that is populating on the front page, and basically negates the actual purpose of this website and widget.

But thanks for your suggestion.

Good suggestion, Kol. The off topic forum is here for a reason and has always been an integral part of this community. Let's just go back to discussing random things. Thanks.

I will say that Wolfson is a good guy, but seems to have got caught up in the heat of the moment. Some of the responses from trash80 were also quite insulting, so take that as a warning as well. Let's keep it civil, and please try to leave politics out of this thread. Moving on...

No one is suggesting you remove the off topic forum. I was only pointing out how the posts from this forum makes the front page look, especially to those unfamiliar with the actors involved.

A warning? If any of my posts broke the forum rules, please edit and/or delete them.

Thank you, my friend. I am still locked down since I'm high risk, but I've kind of developed into a hermit these past few years anyway so it's all good. My wife is going to dust off her bass and we're about to have a jam session for the first time in ages so looking forward to that. She also made me a homemade apple pie.

Enjoy your pie and your birthday. I have some apples in my garage from the apple tree I've got; I never make pie myself, but do occasionally make an apple crumble (sometimes with a few raspberries in it as well when still available, also from my garden).

That sounds pretty tasty.
Apples from a local tree beat supermarket apples every time. No contest.

Kolchak357 how's the new guitar treating ya, buddy?

Sorry I didn’t answer sooner. Must have missed this post somehow. It’s been great. Just exciting to play something else. Pickups sound totally different, which makes it fun. Very different neck and fretboard feel. Wasn’t sure about that at first. Got used to it pretty quick though.
I also had some gift cards for guitar center, so I bought one of those little yamaha thr amps. That tiny amp is such a blast. Very easy to dial in good tones with. Still having fun, and still awful at it. Although my wife dies at least recognize what I’m trying to play now. So I guess I’ve improved a little.
What have you been up to? Any new gear or new songs you are working on?

Very nice! I've heard really good thing about those Yamaha amps, but haven't been able to try one out yet. I have a little Fender GT 40 amp that is kind of similar in terms of having a bunch of effects and tones built in. I love just noodling around with it. I'm looking to get a bigger amp for another room and something I can crank up a bit more if I wanted to jam with buddies, so I was thinking about maybe just getting a bigger version which is the Fender GTX 50 or 100. The great thing about these digital amps is there really isn't much to go wrong or maintain (I always hated the cost of replacing the tubes on my older amps), and having all the effects built right in saves a lot of money and hassle in the long run since you don't need any extra pedals. Plus they're just so much fun. :D

Yes, we are spoiled with these new modeling amps. When I was in school I remember my friends always putting money into having their amps fixed. Don’t get me wrong, a tube amp sounds spectacular, but for just playing at home they can be overkill. I play quietly in my living room most of the time, so a tiny solid state amp works really well for me. I was going to buy a Boss Katana 50, but the guitar tech at my local guitar center recommended trying the Yamaha as well. After five minutes I was hooked. So nice for quiet playing. I got the cheapest model (still $299 without my gift card) and I have zero complaints. But you definitely couldn’t gig with a drummer with it. It gets pretty loud, but not enough power for that imo.
I never played the Fender GTX amps, but they seem very cool from what I have seen on YouTube. I also tried a Vox modeling amp (can’t remember the model) that sounded amazing too, that was probably my second choice. But the Yamaha was a little easier for me to dial in tones quickly. Guitar stores are a trap. You go in with a plan to buy something, try 10 different things, and end up with something that wasn’t even on your radar. Too much fun.

I haven't pulled any of my amps out of storage for a long time. These days I am 100% software (STL Tones and Helix Native) on a laptop and just running through the board when playing out. The only hardware I need is a floor based switching system, but that isn't really necessary anymore either (thanks to Show Page in Studio One 5) and it has pretty much become just a fairly expensive and bulky volume and expression pedal.
