The Sort Order on the Leaderboards

What is the logic behind the sort order of the tables in the leaderboards? And, whatever the logic, why the heck aren't they in alphabetical order instead?

I used to think they were in order of release, but they're not. To be honest, I'm not even sure they stay in the same order from release to release.
