Would someone please explain how the tournaments work? Thank you

You have to wait until a tournement is announced. They aren't going on all the time even though the button is there.
Some tournaments are timed others are not. The pins included in the tourney are selected by Farsight. Check the forum tourney threads or the newsletter to see if any are coming up.

There's one on mobile on the 18:th and on psn on the 25:th this month. They're like once a month.
You try to score the best you can in a game that can last for a maximum of 20 minutes. You get points depending on your place in tournament leaderboard and there are 8 pins to play and all your points are accumulated to final score and place on main tournament leaderboard. You can play how much you want for the duration of the tournament and only your best scores will count.
You must have bought the tables you want to play.

Be ware that some tables are glitchy and not perfect. Like with centaur, it had a rollover bug that if your score rolled over you had to finish the game before 20 minutes ran out or the correct score wouldn't register.

These are the tables for the July 25 PSN Tournament; remember to mark this on your calendar as you will not (at least: did not) see any change to the "Tournament" tile on the main TPA screen when a Tournament is active.

Wow, only 2 tables from S3. I would have bet at least 4 tables. Good, it means I can try to save my place in my current tier.
