Trick to shifting on Android for Video Mode?

Every time I try to flick the shifter it randomly decides to shift up or shift up and then down. This isn't a problem when normally shifting gears outside of Video Mode since shifting down does nothing. This makes it very difficult (while also steering) to quickly hit 5th gear in VM. I can get into 5th gear pretty much instantly on a real table but this phone version they put the gear right by the pause button so it's a huge PITA.

You know you can reposition the shifter, right?

Yeah, a lower secondary button position definitely helps, but it's for sure still not perfect. I think it's tap higher for up and lower for down but I haven't found it 100% reliable.
