I just saw an old thread which had screen shots of adjustable lighting on PS4 .. I wish they would make this available to PS3

The PS3 has more than enough grunt to do some pixel lighting with room to spare if it is done in an optimized manner.

Nope! The biggest problem with the PS3 is the lack of memory. The PS3 only has 256MB of RAM and 256MB of VRAM. Although, that's a lot for V-RAM. The amount of RAM is really poor. The PS4 has 8GB of GDR5 RAM to work with.

shogun00 I've seen these numbers before , while Im not an experienced PS3 developer , I do build games and have some experience. I've been busy building another pinball table , my second table , using Unity Engine and did a optimized pixel lighting build to test how it will run. I did share a test exe here on this forum in the "other tables" section , you can check it out if you have a PC , not a mac. its a old example and the whole table design has changed alot since I shared this but have a look at the pixel lighting..

When I run this exe task manager says it only uses about 120mb ram , and my PC only has a onboard g41 express graphics chip which is only 64mb vram shared.

the link for the exe is http://www.shaderbytes.co.za/creature_feature/creature_feature_3.zip

Unity stats report

vram at about 57.7mb
draw calls range between 60-150
tris are around 75k

pixel light count is around 6 or 7 at the maximum, + directional lighting. The small table light graphics are not actually lights just shader brightness. There are optimizations here though , the tables geometry is split up and layer systems are used so lights only affect a portion of the table assigned to them.

So based on the numbers im seeing in my own development world , I'm led to believe it has to be possible on PS3. Anyway like I said , I'm not an experienced PS3 developer so I'm just presuming.
Krakehz .. I didnt think any games run at 1080p .. its all 720p on PS3 right?

I'm going with what Farsight has said in the past. They have stated that they are already maxing out the RAM in the PS3.

Nope! Some games have 1080p support and TPA is one of them. This is also the reason why the memory is maxed out.

FWIW, I have 14 games on the PS3 that have 1080p support.
