With the new Stern Pinball App and FS's statements that they will also work on Season 6 (No mention of Season 7)....will there be a Season 7? Are the contracts up? Please discuss....:D

I know how much we love to predict future events with little or no evidence...I thought this would be a good topic???

Premature Season Speculation is a side effect of several prescribed medications.

Probably depends on how well season six sells and how well Stern PA sales go. I'm not going to worry about it for now. I'm just going to enjoy the ride.

I hope TPA keeps going... forever. I knew some of the big titles from the 90's but by that point I was focusing more on real life (family, job) so TPA has given me an opportunity to get to know many games I wouldn't otherwise. They have a great game and are preserving the past, whichever tables they choose to make. I just hope they can sneak in Spirit of 76 and C37 soon so I can stop stressing about them in case things eventually end or they take a hiatus.

Hopefully. I don't see why not. Things seem to be going well, even with the declining popularity of table inclusions of each season. I think the Stern app will only help bolster the attention and sales of TPA which will hopefully lead to additional seasons.

I hope so. I don't agree with the theory that we're "scraping the bottom of the barrel" already - Rescue 911 and Last Action Hero were real pleasant surprises for me.

I believe there's a ton of probably not stellar, but enjoyable tables still to do, given the wide variety of odd and quirky tables out there. Even mediocre pinball is still entertaining to me, I don't just play the cream of the crop, and love just randomly dropping into a table for a credit or two.

Why wouldn't they continue if people would still be buying tables? They want to make money and TPA is their bread and butter application.

I don't see the Stern Pinball Arcade app having as frequent releases after the initial flurry. If their deal is from Star Trek on they basically have 8 total new Stern tables they can put in the app before they have to wait until the next new Stern table is released. They're adding padding with the 3 TPA Sterns (Frank/Ripley/Starship Troopers). After those three they only have 5 other Sterns to pad with but I think only two of those are worth porting over - Last Action Hero, Phantom of the Opera, High Roller Casino, Flight 2000 and Harley being the five.

The potential problem I see if they can still put Sterns/Data East/Sega titles in TPA anymore. If they do something like Rollercoaster Tycoon or Tales from the Crypt would that get a TPA and SPA release or just in the Stern App? Could see some grumblings if its just SPA.

Whenever someone makes a wish list I go "yeah, those seems like nice tables" and then you go watch some competition and see other tables and go "those seem kinda cool; and since they are in a tournament they can't be all that bad..."

So they way I see it there is lots and lots of interesting tables out there to fill up any number of seasons :)

Farsight said in a Facebook post that SPA tables would be released less frequently than TPA tables:

We will continue to release for Pinball Arcade. Stern releases will be less frequent so we should be able to handle it. [smile emoticon]

No new DE/Sega/Stern tables will be in TPA anymore; LAH is the last one. At least that was my guess when the press release dropped, and still is based on this FAQ they put on the AC/DC Kickstarter page:

FAQ: Is stern Pinball Arcade going to be a seperate app from Pinball Arcade? / Yes. Some classic Stern Tables will be ported to the new Stern Pinball Arcade, but not the other way around. The new era tables will only be released inside the Stern Pinball Arcade app.

(Actually, I'm not sure what "new era" means. It might exclude only the old Stern of Flight 2000. Or it might exclude Data East, or Data East alphanumeric, or ...?)

New era might mean SAM and Spike systems of games. It might include some Whitestar games (certainly the older set of games from TPA), and I'm hoping that they won't stop doing older Stern games within Pinball Arcade.

Let's be realistic about Stern here. If SPA is primarily for newer releases only, TPA could easily get a half season out of Stern Electronics alone (titles like Catacomb and Seawitch amongst others). Add in a couple non-licensed Data East era tables and you have the foundation for about 2 seasons when supplemented by WMS, Gottlieb, Alving G, and possibly Capcom tables. I don't want any more Gottlieb SS tables but I'd be surprised if Cactus Jack's and Surf N Safari and Wipe Out didn't get released. TX Sector is next table. I would love Stargate if that is possible.
As for WMS, you still have 2-3 seasons worth of strong tables that have not been done so there is plenty of stuff out there.

The only non-licensed table left that will get huge attention is probably Eight Ball Deluxe, maybe a Capcom table if that gets included like Big Bang Bar. Not that most other tables are scraping the barrel, but they are solid games that won't raise eyebrows. Good for fans but nothing that will cross over like the tables people know in the mainstream.

Quite likely there'll be a season 7.

First, SPA is only Stern tables, and only newer tables. SPA doesn't emulate the ROMs, it runs them natively (the source code is compiled into the table and runs natively). TPA will address the older tables whose ROMs are run in an emulated environment. Thus SPA is only good for tables where the source code is still available.

THe only way TPA will end is if they stop making money off tables, and every table that anyone wants is done. As long as there's demand for tables they'll keep doing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Season 6 is the last season, and thereafter we get some tables sporadically. I say that because they are going to want to focus more on SPA, but also because FarSight needs to move forward. They are very fond of the mobile market, and that market is constantly evolving. There are now how many Angry Birds titles? Variations on Candy Crush? That's what I look at SPA being, their next evolution. TPA can be an earner without new tables, they just have to figure out how to market to new consumers. I heard tale of how TotAN is constantly being downloaded by new users each month, so it could happen. Considering how many tables are now available, eventually it becomes a tipping point where profits from new users outweigh old users simply buying that one table each month.

I think there are still a ton of good tables left to keep TPA going for a good while. And the best part of that is that those tables aren't all modern DMD's. If a game's dlc is still selling well, why stop? How long has Halo, CoD, Resident Evil been going?

I have to agree with this....

There's gotta be dozens and dozens more popular tables they could make. I'll continue to buy them all and I bet there's hundreds like me that will too
