an oft-revisited thread... ugh such love for unseen/unrealized tb themes, could have so much potential awesome... :)

"mst3k" - awwwwwwwww that'd be such an awesome, awesome one... :) so much material, maybe even don't have to get all that into "movie" riff stuff, just the random stuff they filled with the between segments and "invention exchanges"... a real primo!!! :0

"buckaroo banzai..." i kick that one often around my head, when i think of what i'd love to try to make first! ;0

one i came up with earlier tonight, something that "in a better day, a better time" - might not be as controversial!! ;0 (yah! :) but to tackle a set of ralpha baskhi-themed tables - yeah! :) i have "wizards" in my movie list collection, and it came up tonight just to play randomly... -that- would be an awesomely weird "LCD left-to-right/top-to-bottom" table!!!! something crazy modern-day, with every piece a part of the table display, like one large video monitor... such -great- artwork in that!

on a bakshi vibe, his "original" lord of the rings anis woulda been a great set of tables... and belatedly, one that shoulda not been missed, one for "cool world" ;0)...

but there is -one- baskshi pb above all, i think coulda been a neat, nay say it, -awesome- pb - that woulda been "american pop"?! probably my favorite of his! lol, imagine that "dealer OD" mode on that one! ;0

hehe HHB, i'd also guessed previous at some david lynchian-themed tables, like a "blue velvet" table - lol imagined the bumpers to start going "i found an ear-an ear-an ear-an-ear!" ;0

gorillaz would be a -prime- "band" to pursue, if it weren't for all the underlying "multi-group/multi-publishers" representing "mutliple artists" involved with that project....... :\ seems to me, that sucks, now thinking about it! but "they" otherwise would be so prime i bet for something like that. i dunno if they'd done anything deep enough with their contracts to do something like that, to the level of a "kiss" table say...

Hey folks. Seeing tables like Oz, Alien and Lebowski made me think about other themes and licenses that would make awesome pinball tables. What do you dream of when you think of tables you wish existed?

Here's some of mine:

Twin Peaks - so many ideas! Lots of characters and locations for a table that represents the town, tons of great sound bytes and events from the show for callouts and modes! A rustic, wood-aesthetic. Great music. It's all there!

'66 Batman - Again, great theme! Missions based around the Rogues Gallery: Joker, Catwoman, Riddler and Penguin. Tons of awesome music and sound bytes, a vintage Batmobile playfield toy, a hurry-up where you have to get rid of a bomb, a TAF-like bookshelf with a winding wireform ramp to a Batcave lower playfield, that red phone that lights up when a mode is ready, some beautiful hand-drawn art of the actors...

Ren and Stimpy

Mystery Science Theater 3000

Harry Potter - it blows my mind that it doesn't already exist

Toy Story - of all the Pixar films, this one seems like the best candidate for a pinball table and one that really gets my brain racing with possibilities.

Gorillaz - When it comes to pins based on bands, Gorillaz seems like a perfect choice due to the "story" created for the fictional characters and albums. Hewlett's art would make a gorgeous table, especially if he designed the playfield art himself, and a WoZ-style LCD screen could show-off original animation.

Toho Godzilla - Become the king of the monsters! The table would be Tokyo, with collapsable buildings and several Monster bash toys...

I could go on but I'm curious what others have in mind...

I love your Toy Story & Barman themes. I will love a Def Leopard -Pyromania one.

Wow, Wizards made me think of Fritz the Cat, which made me think of R. Crumb. A wholly-original Crumb-designed (art-wise) table would be sooooo good.

This got me on a new train of thought: What visual artists would you like to see design the art for an original table?

Immediately springs to mind: Daniel Clowes and Chris Ware. Would love to see a John Kricfalusi table. Obviously so many people ripped off Frank Frazetta. Ed "Big Daddy" Roth is another perfect choice. Gary Baseman. Penn Ward. Jesse Moynihan. I already mentioned Jamie Hewlett, I love his stuff in Tank Girl... I would love to see an entire table composed around a Vargas Girl. Rockin' Jelly Bean. Moebius...

crumb by crumb.
Greatest idea of this thread.

yeah!!:)

p.s. frank miller, obviously!

i'd been wanting to get back a copy of the documentary of "crumb" recently; such a good (and tragic) one... reminds me recently having caught up to see "devil and daniel johnston" - two different sides of a coin; a sane artist growing up out of an insane household, and another growing up "insane" within a "sane" one... depends a bit on your take of it, but anyhow, "different but similar," and interesting movies-about-art-and-artist flicks! :) love those kindsa things; kinda rare to find good movies that aren't too "eggy-art-head" in style to watch...

p.p.s. though.... i dunno those either would be "good" pb themes lol!

p.p.p.p.s. : if you don't know daniel johnston... :) and wanna find out... try blanking your mind out of any concept you have currently about pop or folk music of any kind, save for some half-or-one-quarter memories of beatles, dylan and beach boys... then try this out for size... :)

if ya try nothin' else, see what you think about his version of "when i saw her standing there" starting at about 13:15... :)

WhiteChocolate Have you seen the Roky Erickson documentary "You're Gonna Miss Me" or the Townes van Zandt doc "Be Here To Love Me?" I think you'd like them...

You guys, R. Crumb is still alive and active at 72! Somebody with money, hire him for a pin before he croaks! It's such a perfect marriage!

How does everyone feel about a table inspired by M.C. Escher?

How about H.P Lovecraft? That would be stellar. While we are at it, the 80's Re-Animator film is a great license!

How about H.P Lovecraft?

I was just thinking the other day how weird it is that there's no Cthulu/Lovecraft pin. Or maybe it should be a Miskatonic U (sp?) table with the elder gods as final wizaed modes.

I also think Paranoia the game could make an awesome pin.

What do you envision in a Fight Club table?

Hmmm. This one is kinda obscure, but a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs/Xenozoic Age table with art by Mark Schultz would be incredible.

Or how about The Tick? While we're talking Ben Edlund we might as well have a Venture Bros. table too! Both would be great!

I'll second a Savage Sword of Conan table and add Red Sonja to the mix! Vampirella also seems like a natural.

Maybe something based on pulp magazines like Eerie, Weird Tales, True Crime, etc...

I'm not really a fan of Spawn but I think that would make for a cool pinball table.

Japan probably has a lot of great properties for pinball. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop... Battle Royale! Again, not really a fan of Attack on Titan but I could see a really boss table being designed around it.

How about Kill Bill?

Two more super-obvious video game pins: The Legend of Zelda and Metroid! Both very good worlds to build a table around. Pokemon had a Game Boy Advance pinball game, seems like another obvious money-maker, and the pinballs could be little poke-balls.

That's easy... an original theme, aka a theme that doesn't exist yet. :)
and original like unlicensed one. I'm tired of crappy PS (f)art and quotes and characters that are present just for the sake of it. I stumbled upon Stern's Bataman few days ago for the first time. And I walked away after just one game. It is that ugly. And there are even uglier and cheaper looking ones.

'82 Space Adventure Cobra Pinball (huge success in France and Italia in the 80's)

- PsychoGun Multiball (quick multiball)
- Rugball Frenzy
- Lady Armaroid Assembly Mode to start Bounty Hunters Multiball (in which you face opponents by difficulty: Tarbeige ,Crystal Boy, Salamander). Requires combo shots to complete.
- Royal Sisters Map collectibles (earned by beating the 3 villains) to start Ultimate Weapon challenge.

Fap fap fap.

"Despicable Me" or a "Minions" table would be a fun theme. Kids would enjoy the Minion table toys and grown-ups could enjoy the humor of the movies.

Although we all know this will never happen, I'd be interested to see Gottlieb's original version of "Legend of Zelda", before it became "American Gladiators", and eventually just "Gladiators".
