The folks at Zen Studios have punched out another beta for Williams Pinball Volume 2, and Chris gets some hands-on time with it. There's plenty of iterative improvements over the first beta, so we go into some of the juicy details. Then we get our thinking caps on and try to do some...

BlahCade #154: Slow News Weeks Are*Awesome!

When it’s a quiet news week like this one is, we know there are things happening behind the scenes in digital pinball that are sure to blow up. The festive season is typically a busy season for games developers, and pinball game developers are no different. With a mixture of topics this...

BlahCade #153: A Bad Case of the Smurfberries

When you play a video game, you do it to have fun. What is fun to one person differs, but in general you usually want to either complete the game or unlock everything in it. So what happens when your experience is interrupted by a game funding model that sucks the life out of your enjoyment of...

BlahCade #152: Does Censoring Pinball Kill the Buzz?

My post was poorly structured (was at work). The legislators were against Sharpe, saying that pinball was about luck or chance (tainted by the Bingo era of pinball) and were gambling devices. Sharpe was indeed there to prove that the premise of pinball was that it was a game of skill and not...

BlahCade #152: Does Censoring Pinball Kill the Buzz?

To me, it feels like a more logical way to proceed if classification becomes problematic. As an aside though Roger Sharp's actions were about the mechanics of pinball being luck/chanCe based, not skill-based. And it didn't take into account the fact that back in that era, games did not have...

BlahCade #152: Does Censoring Pinball Kill the Buzz?

There's a point at which you just shake your head and say "nope, that's too far". For some, it is when you change even the slightest part of an original item to meet today's censorship laws. For others, it ranges from "a bit is OK" to "hey, I really couldn't care less". In this episode, we...

They also gave us Blitzen Flippers. The Euro market's demand for shorter play times meant shortening the Flippers just that teeny bit. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

BlahCade #151: Stern Pinball Arcade VR and Cabinet Shenanigans

The thing about the T2 argument is that you have to make a choice: Graphics over Physics. It's a shame that the talented folks who create the tables and physics models couldn't just collaborate and make an amazing table. Haha, yeah the PinSim thing is a different type of complexity. Its a...

BlahCade #151: Stern Pinball Arcade VR and Cabinet Shenanigans

Yep, it does seem pretty much like SPA will maybe only kept for VR purposes only. It's a shame because the game experience running native code not emulated code is superior. I would love to see some very high-quality Gottlieb EMs coming down the line.
