vikingerik makes a good point, and I never really thought about it before.
I don't think it's a specific Stern thing though, a lot of WMS tables are the same - but the most memorable ones of them, really care about matching their callouts and animations feeding an increasing enthusiasm with the...
I feel like a scatch in a record here.... it doesn't matter what FarSight thinks it is, just look at the question from the consumer perspective. The consumer who wants a regular portrait mode, not cabinet. It's really not too complicated. :P
I tried the real table since I created this thread, and I like it a lot more. Basically, on TPA what you get from the original table is the theme and basic playfield layout. The physics and the experience you get from playing the table can never be replicated perfectly, and without it, I think...
Wow, Cue Ball Wizard looks really good! Looks like a quality step up, back to the look of the first few table packs.
Also, I still don't get why SAM simulation would have to go through emulation, when they should be able to get the source directly from Stern.
I realise that High Speed was a milestone when it was created, and basically introduced the concepts that would eventually draw me into pinball many years later. But tell me, what do you get from High Speed than The Getaway doesn't give?
On The Getaway you have the awesome gear system where you...
It's still two entirely different things, and portrait mode already exists for mobile devices. Cabinet modes are supposedly upgrades similar to pro packs, while portrait mode is just a different camera viewport.
Why not?
I guess it would make sense to have modern Disney licenses like X-Men og Avengers there, but it's pretty common to see older tables in amusement parks.
Then I did understand you correctly, and my point still stands - we aren't talking about cabinet mode, we are talking about a regular old rotated screen. No matter what FS says, cabinet mode has no relevance to this :P
I love pre-rendering, myself. Some VP tables look much better than the TPA version because they are actual photos as opposed to live rendered 3D models. Hell, I think Diablo 2 looks much better than Diablo 3, and I never understood why anyone thinks otherwise.
Punisher, play Spider-Man, Iron Man and AC/DC :)
I think multiballs stopped feeling climactic back around the mid 90's, but at least Iron Man does that well.
The tables aren't bland, I meant the theme. I don't really "feel" the theme with any of the tables, and I think you gotta be a big fan of the band in question to really enjoy it. As a "theme-less" pinball table, AC/DC is an amazing piece.
I don't think more realistic physics is something you can just buy your way to. :)
There are a lot of real tables out there where post passes are impossible or at least pretty difficult/random. :)
At least I think a lot of the modes can be timed out, if progress is what you are going for. "Beating the game" without buy-ins sounds like a great wizard goal. I hate that penny pinching philosophy about the design though, even if that's what has dictated a lot of what we love about pinball.
