Round 4: Q&A With Bobby King: Answers

Bah. I'd love to see Royal Flush, and now that I've seen video of Fireball, I want Fireball. (Both of those were actually remade as SS games, come to think of it, though the SS version of Fireball omitted one of its most distinctive features, the zipper flippers; I'd want to see the EM versions.)

    Theories about Stern and Farsight

Stern already did this with Indiana Jones: there was a 2008 table as a tie-in with Crystal Skull.

    EATPM Tactics and Strategies

This is a game that really makes me wish TPA had some way of saving the machine state long-term (which would also take care of Taxi's accumulating jackpot, the specialized mode-champion lists in Monster Bash and Twilight Zone, etc.) I realize there are doubtless practical problems with this.

Bug Two balls stuck in the BBQ/Boogie hole

Today I managed to get two balls at once into the BBQ/Boogie Bonus hole during multiball, and they got stuck back there in a restless way, moving and rattling around as the hole tried to kick them out. They seemed to be in a position that is not physically possible on a real table, though I'm...

I guess I know why it has the dot on iOS...

It's good to know that Williams' ROM is still trying its hardest, even imprisoned in the Matrix.

Nailing the elusive Crossover Bonus (and other strategy discussions for Taxi)

I just got the Crossover Bonus yesterday, not very deliberately, and I think it was by this mechanism.

    Question about Pinball.org tut vids

Huh, I just found out he's a mathematics teacher by trade. That makes a lot of sense. I'd bet he's a good one.

    Question about Pinball.org tut vids

One of the things I like about Bowen's videos is the instructive way he comments on his own mistakes. He also does commentary on PAPA championship videos.

The FlipperGubben must be a big place!

...and I see Vegas PHoF now has more tables than I thought, with a total of about 400!

    Tips for hitting the Hole-In-One...

I got it completely by accident once. I have no idea how.

The FlipperGubben must be a big place!

...gee, Silverball sounds like it beats even the Vegas Hall of Fame. Amazing collection of old EMs there (Pinball Wizard is essentially just solid-state pinball).

The FlipperGubben must be a big place!

There are a few bigger ones, but not many. More than I thought before I looked into this, though. The Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas is probably the biggest, with something like 150 tables. Pinball Wizard in Pelham, NH has 108, though not all of those may be playable at any given time. The...

Should TPA have gone the pre-rendered route, like PP Remastered?

I'm not sure this is such a big problem, any more than it is for TPA. You don't need a prerendered image for every possible state of the entire table (which would be impossible even in Pro Pinball); you just need prerendered assets, masks for lighting and occlusion of the ball image, etc. for...

    Worst release so far?

That makes sense; presumably they could cover some other PHoF reruns at the same time. Space Shuttle and Sorcerer are system 9 (according to IPDB); Gorgar and Firepower are system 6.

On Returning to Real Pinball and the Taming of the Twilight Zone, Part II

$15 for 6 hours of free play??? Man! I suck so badly, I can easily blow through more money than that at a place where all the tables are a quarter a play. In my 1990s pinball-playing days I never got very good at it, in part because I tended to play two-player games with a friend of mine who...

    Worst release so far?

Farsight seems to hope to eventually replace the scripted Black Knight with an emulated version. If they're really going to do that, I could see them devoting less effort to fixing bugs in the existing scripting. But I don't know if they're actually putting any time into emulating Williams...

    DLC Release Date

My other platform is Android, and there, the new tables have actually been coming out at a nice steady pace, if not bug-free. TPA is starting to feel huge enough that I think about getting more selective about what I buy... but whenever a new pack pops up, my attitude is that it's two new...

PS3 williams collection original game compared to the pinball arcade

About half of PS3 players seem to get terrible flipper lag, for some reason. That may be part of it.

Most difficult Wizard goals / Tables with most difficult goals overall

I haven't gotten it, but I've gotten most of the way there; my best game had 30 hits to the scoop. It's mostly a question of having the attention span to do it, and not get distracted by the rest of the game tempting you to play it and drain the ball.

    Pins and Needles, Los Angeles

For a while my daughter (now 6) just watched me play PHoF and TPA on the TV, but when we visited Funspot she was interested enough that I got her to play co-op with me, operating the plunger and the right flipper on Pinbot and Gorgar, which she recognized from the videogame. Then I pointed out...
