Thanks for putting together this interview.
Looks like Steam is pretty much a done deal. Now I just need a SteamBox. (It won't be a Piston!)
Very sad news for console owners, but then nothing we really didn't expect. Short version: don't expect too many updates or fixes.
It'll be...
Roy Wils playing the beta of Cactus and CP.

I know CP is a favourite for some people, but I have no idea why. It's a terrible drain monster, even by the standards of EMs. Just my opinion, but these House-Ball fiends gave pinball a bad reputation...
Yeah, I think this is true of most every table.
TPA does an OK job, but real tables have many features that aren't modelled in simulations. All of them add up to much more ball complexity, and harder shots, than these simulations usually provide for.
Just one example, of many: when a ball...
Must admit it's a bit more interesting at times than the official Zen board. That can be a bit stifling.
And as far as I'm concerned, the more competition FS have, the better. I think we'd all like them to improve their game in various areas.
Zen, too.
Firstly, thanks guys for the help with the rules.
Secondly, yeah, those Sabre Awards...
What are they? How do you activate them? And how do you get awarded them?
Because when a ramp (or loop?) lights up with "Sabre Award", I shoot the ramp, but sometimes the light doesn't go away.
Me confused.
According to the designer of TESB, you can "start the Hyperspace multiball, than the Jedi, Sith and Imperial multiballs. So you get 4 running multis at a time."
Some questions:
- how do you get HYPERSPACE letters? I know it's about shooting the right ramp, but when? (Do you have to hit that...
I wasn't referring to the artwork.
Rather, the DMD display itself. The simulation of the DMD plasma glow effect. They added it to TPA, but it's missing in Zen's work.
Gotta say: I'm seriously impressed by the TESB table.
It oozes quality, and considered design. There are many multiball modes, and most (all?) are stackable.
It's also a decent challenge. Zen have really stepped up their game for this one. Anyone writing off these tables because of past Zen...
Don't worry, it's not for everyone.
It's a complex, cluttered table design and it doesn't have a lot of flow.
Many people admire all the gadgets and the complexity of the rules, but it's not a table you can just kick back with and make free-flowing shot after shot.
Just my opinion, but I...
Yes, and no.
The DMD in TPA looks far superior to Zen's efforts.
Zen Pinball's DMD doesn't even look like a DMD. It looks like a 2 bit image made of points, rather than cells, with no plasma glow, and bad colours.
The thing about that is that MS is also Zen's "publisher".
And I use the term "publisher" loosely, because it's obvious that Microsoft's "publishing" arrangements on XBLA are little more than a scam designed to enrich MS by enforcing artificial and costly barriers to entry. Barriers that MS...
As pointed out, they are optional.
However, I keep them on. Not because I like the effect itself, but because they really help you determine where the ball is, and where it's going. Particularly in multiball.
Even at 60fps, fast moving balls can be hard to track; the vapour trails help you...
Good work on the comparisons.
I'm not sure how anyone could have been confused.
(But I always wear headphones when gaming, and the differences are very obvious to me.)
These sound-alikes don't sound very much alike. Some are not even close.
Darth Vader sounds nothing like the original...
Some musings on the (tedious) Zen-FS comparisons/arguments...
- Regardless of what people think of Zen's tables, they are a pinball simulation. As are TPA's tables. They both simulate real world physics. Much of what people regard as the "physics" really comes down to table designer choices...
Mike, are you guys actively working with any of the next-gen consoles?
And if you are, do you see TPA looking substantially better on them? Are there any new approaches you'll be taking, to use the extra resources?
