Wow, sweet!

The article has a good point about the improved AA, too--at least, it sure looks smooth in their screenshot.

I think they're mistaken about the controller being the cure for the PS3 version's 1080p flipper lag, though--FarSight has said that is due to the lighting effect they're using there. Good to hear the PS4 version is lag-free, anyway. : )

It seems what they're saying is that the improved controller makes it easy to notice there's no lag, not that the controller itself is the cure.

It seems what they're saying is that it's easy to notice there's no lag because the new controller is so nice, not that the controller itself is the reason there's no lag.

Oh...yeah. Darn you Jeff, stop flaunting your superior reading comprehension. = P

Yeah, I'll await FarSight's confirmation of PS3 carrying over to PS4, but if true, hot damn!

Especially since I for sure won't be getting a PS4 for quite a while. Turns out that you HAVE to play using HDMI, and my 12 year old Pioneer Elite only uses component. But I'll feel a lot better about continuing to buy for the PS3 if it does in fact carry over.

Pioneer Elite is nice quality gear.

Perhaps something like this would work for you

Ok. So what I'm getting from that article is that any table pack that you already own on the PS3 will be free to download when a PS4 version of that table is available. Is that what the rest of you are getting? I could be wrong but I doubt FarSight will have them all done by launch day.

OK, Farsight people, someone please officially confirm that PS3/PSV "Cross-buy" TPA ownership will carryover to the PS4 version of TPA for us. It would be much appreciated, and would amount to an instant $40 for Season 1 Pro buy from this long suffering fan, and I'm sure many others.

Nice seeing pics and vids on the PS4 :) I crossbuy actually is true, that is great news.
I have allready pre-ordered a PS4 regardless, but this makes me even more happier ;)

Sure, it'll look better in a real, directly recorded video, but this tech demo is clearly a quick "throw some point lights over the spots where bulbs are and get them blinking" affair. One thing I was coming back to say was that it isn't just a light-placement and tweaking issue, either: to get this looking right they would really need to re-model the bulbs and light housings so that they're truly transparent, rather than opaque textures colored to "look" illuminated, and then place the light sources inside the bulb models--that's the only way you're going to be able to get the shadows right. When the left phaser bank activates around 0:35 in the above video, for instance, it's obvious that the red light that comes on is just a reddish light source placed above the phaser, rather than something shining from inside the phaser itself.
Yes! That's exactly what I thought. The insert bulbs should not light the playfield area around them at all, just the insert lens. The only light sources that can illuminate the playfield must obviously be above the height of the playfield (GI lamps and most flashers). Insert bulbs are naturally below the playfield.

It does look lovely and smooth though. I'm quite certain FS want to get genuine GI light support in there. We've discussed it on here a few times already.

Just wondering, what's best/most reliable way to pre-order the PS4? Amazon?

Some opinions would be good :)

I did Amazon, Monday night. Last I looked they were no longer offering "1st day" pre-orders, but you can still pre-order in "when we reach you on the order list" status (which doesn't necessarily mean it won't be launch day).

If your LEDs are bright enough, some insert jewels will let out enough light to light the area around them slightly. Didn't study the video/screens enough to see if that would properly describe what was going on on STTNG, I doubt it.

That said, I agree with what smbhax said about how they should handle the lighting for tables. Make it as "real" as you can... but make the light sources colored like modern LEDs, not "warm white" like old incandescent bulbs.

Listen up, PS3 and Vita users: You will NOT have to buy TPA for PS4 AGAIN. http://www.psnstores.com/2013/06/pinball-arcade-ps4-will-be-cross-buy-with-ps3-and-vita/

But you will have to pay 5$ per month (7€ in Europe) to just post scores on leaderboards.

Without me. I will never pay to play online, and I don't care of free games and all stuff, because I haven't much time anymore to play videogames as in the past.

The free PSN was perfect, as you don't have to profit a monthly subscription.

Leaderboards won't require a PLUS subscription, you only need it to play real time multiplayer.

Oh, ok, sorry for my mistake. Whatever, the mandatory subscription for online play stays a very bad news. :(
