To be honest, I don't really care about the UI of The Pinball Arcade.
So many things to fix first...

Almost anything would be better than what we currently have...almost.

Gotta disagree. The new UI is a lateral move at best, possibly a step back. Ugly as sin. I preferred the backglass art over bubbles with logos. Not only that, but tables are now sorted by season and table pack rather than the far more sensical Alphabetical listing we have now. Now we have to toggle through multiple menus instead of listing all tables on one screen and we have to remember which season the table we want is in. Lots of missed opportunities with table listing/sorting. Why not give the option for Alphabetical, chronological, manufacturers, etc?

Probably the biggest disappointment is that after all this time THAT was the best they could do. Like their only reference for interface design is late 90s DVDs. They can't afford a real graphic designer?? I'll do it for free.

I also spot highest score behind their logo there which I believe is an addition to this screen, I can only guess we can rate the tables we don't like to the bottom so we don't see them, it would be nice if it were a modular install but they aren't setup for it.

Everyone should keep in mind their UI choices are hindered by all the platforms they develop for, since this UI will eventually rollout onto all platforms, there has to be a start button at the bottom because touchphones can't press enter. I'm sure the squares are a conveince for touch screen users as well.

Also everyone bear in mind, that this is a beta and it is the time to make suggestions on new features (like a "Favorites" or "Sort By Designer" or custom tags so you can sort/filter 'em how you want).

And specify your default view.

For instance having a nice XML/other-type config file where you could create your own custom tags that are then parsed by the UI to create dynamic menus.

Also how about a separate command-line-only table launcher .exe that bypasses the UI altogether, or at the very least suppresses it, if it's required for certain engine components backed into PinballArcade[11].exe.

My suggestion is to turn the the squares into rectangles and make the rectangles the backglass of each of the games. Just my thought.

Well, guys, I'm quite happy to have been wrong! I had not seen that screen nor heard anything regarding sorting outside of the seasons/packs. So bravo!

Agree with MontanaFrank, I still say the bubbles (balls?) in square tiles should just be the full backglass art. Why even have the ugly gray tiles? Soften/round the edges if you want them to look like buttons, i guess, but the backglass art is the way to go.

The new UI looks so much worse than what we already have. Those pop-up sorting boxes look like they came out of an ancient windows program and the top icons look like the came from a mid-90's geo cities website.
I've been wanting a new UI forever, but after seeing it my new wish is that they don't force that on us.

Why do you guys need the ability to sort so badly? I could understand if there were hundreds of tables, but there's only 60. It quite literally only takes a few seconds to scroll to any table in the list and launch it.

I like the sorting options for historical context.

I'll tell you what, guys. I'll make a few of my own UI mock-ups so Farsight can see what we mean.

Keep in mind that doing anything to the UI that changes on a monthly basis would wreck havoc on the consoles, as any change to the game has to then be approved by Xbox or Sony. This is why it takes forever for tables to reach the consoles and instead come in groups. They aren't even able to send a text blast for the scrolling ticker at the bottom of the UI main screen without getting approval.

My experience with the new UI in beta has been that it is a huge step forward. You may think it looks a bit bland, but I want my UI functional, which it is. The fonts are a bit bland, but easily readable. The table bubbles match what they have been doing on the website for a while now, so there is a thread of consistency. Every time I have had to go back to the current UI, the scrolling through tables becomes more and more annoying compared to just clicking on the one you want. I love that on the main page, you can go straight to the last table you played, which is nice while doing TotW. Also there is no more guesswork as to what the free table of the month is.

I'm just saying, seeing pictures and complaining is nothing compared to messing with this UI for real. We all know how little time we actually spend staring at the UI versus just trying to get to our next game. It is much clearer in navigation, getting to settings or choosing a custom ball have never been easier. And best of all, that horrible generic guitar song is gone and replaced with Pinball Wizard!

As long as they improve it from its current state I'll be happy. I'm only on PS4 so everyone on steam please test and send your feedback. All feedback is useful to them as they can improve its current form using your opinions!
