For Duffers: The BASIC Goals You Just Can't Get

There's another thread on easy vs hard wizard goals. Klutzes like me, who flail around a lot and can't nudge but have fun anyway, look at a thread like that and laugh. Wizard goals? Some of us can't get all the normal ones.

I'm not talking about the tables where I likely won't ever get all the normal goals because I don't like them and don't play them very often. I'm talking about tables I play quite a lot, CONSCIOUSLY trying to get that fifth star (as opposed to just farting around) and yet never quite get there. For example:

- Attack From Mars and Whodunnit: Complete a Super Skill Shot. Well, maybe I could if I could figure out HOW.

- Cyclone: 100K skill shot. Have tried and tried. I played this table a lot IRL and I don't remember having this problem. I think some of it is TPA's plunger.

- High Roller Casino: Win with a Cheat Game. This appears tied to the ramp shots and I find those hard to make on this table.

- Medieval Madness: Destroy two castles. I'm going to get this one one day if it kills me (and it might). I'm up to about a 70M game on this but I find the castle center shot is the hardest one on the table, the only one I can't make consistently.

- Safecracker: Collect a Cellar Award. You'd think I'd have done this by now so it must be something that takes special care to do.

- Tales of the Arabian Nights: Harem multiball.

I know there's some other people around here who will admit to being less-than-wizard players, right? 'Fess up and tell me of the basic goals that are eluding you.

meh.....first 4 are actually very easy, don't know about safecracker (booooooooring) and harem is also easy when you figure out that holding the ball on the right flipper will turn off tiger loop so you can go for harem instead.

- Attack From Mars: Complete a Super Skill Shot. Well, maybe I could if I could figure out HOW.

Hold the L Flipper up while plunging, then shoot the ball up a ramp or into the Saucer shield; Super Skill Shot achieved.

Harem multi-ball is about patience. So long as the lock isn't lit shoot it into the L orbit. If the tiger loop is lit just hold the ball until it times out; maybe 10 seconds.

FYI, you can look at the in-game instructions and get a step-by-step, detailed, guide on what needs to be done to accomplish any goal.

Go options, goals, click/tap on the goal and there will be a guide for it.

AFM - hold down the left flipper when you plunge the ball, the ball will go all the way round the loop to the left flipper. Make one of the flashing shots (left orbit, left ramp, right ramp, right orbit) to score the Super Skill Shot.

WD - Plunge the ball into the small gap below the T-A-X-I standups, it will award a lock, points, and something else. You can keep doing it too.

- Cyclone: 100K skill shot. Have tried and tried. I played this table a lot IRL and I don't remember having this problem. I think some of it is TPA's plunger.

It's all TPA's plunger. Try nudging when the ball is level with the 100K hole, that helps some.

- High Roller Casino: Win with a Cheat Game. This appears tied to the ramp shots and I find those hard to make on this table.

Making ramps gains you Cheat Games. If you have a Cheat Game available and lose a casino game (easiest by far to lose deliberately is Hi-Lo), the Cheat Game is used up and the loss in converted to a win.

- Medieval Madness: Destroy two castles. I'm going to get this one one day if it kills me (and it might). I'm up to about a 70M game on this but I find the castle center shot is the hardest one on the table, the only one I can't make consistently.

Getting 70M without destroying 2 castles is pretty impressive, really. Learn to nudge early after hitting the closed castle gate. Learn the angles the ball will come back at. Shooting the castle with a rolling ball is all but impossible, too, so trap the ball first.

- Safecracker: Collect a Cellar Award. You'd think I'd have done this by now so it must be something that takes special care to do.

The Cellar is the vari-target (push-back target) in the upper left part of the table. After a few hits to push the target all the way back, the ball will drop in and you collect the lit Cellar award (ATM Card, Teller Note, Explosives, Vault Letter, Outlanes Lit). Except when the Cellar is lit to start/re-start the board game.

- Tales of the Arabian Nights: Harem multiball.

Yep, that's perhaps the trickiest of those listed. As has been mentioned, hold the ball on the right flipper until the Harem lamp is lt on the left orbit. I find changing camera angles to the lowest helps aiming here.

I know there's some other people around here who will admit to being less-than-wizard players, right? 'Fess up and tell me of the basic goals that are eluding you.

The one that eluded me longest was 180s on Goin' Nuts.

Eldar, I am impressed with your ability to play Goin' Nuts long enough to get ANY of the stars. I think that table is a bad idea that was justified in never going into production. Only table in the entire set where I have absolutely no stars. Even El Dorado: City of Boredom has two stars.

EDIT: I lie. Somehow I managed to play Goin' Nuts long enough to get the re-launch from a rollunder goal. I stand corrected.

P.S. Thanks for the tips! I was actually looking for other people's war stories, not tips, but I'll take 'em!

My two last table goals where the 100k bonus on HH and the recon combo on SST. Mostly because of horrible physics on that tables.

70M without two castles on MM is really impressive. ;)

You know, I always do read the full game instructions, but I think somehow I never realized you could click through on the goal listing and be taken to that part of the instructions. Thanks! I am not always super-observant.

Well ...during the war...

of bop - Loved this table irl and was very excited to get in pinball arcade but for weeks after I couldnt get the big wheel to save my life because the brides singing was so off putting but in the spirit of the game i refused to turn it down i just made music louder so the machine was drowned out! i believe thats what they call tactics!

of tng- I love star trek, love the soundpackage and shots of tng, but I can never seem to truely control the ball to the point where i can go into zen mode (excuse the pun) right now were in a state of cold war like north and south korea with some hitler like almost toruettes like outbusts!

sorry im getting some pstd flash backs and need to sit down

This is not the correct way to do it, but I do it anyways, I just alternate Left and Right until there's nothing in the hallways, then I just stay Right for a few times
LLRRLLRLRR (last one can be L or R it doesn't matter it's always an artifact).

The 6th one is either 10M or EB, you can only get the EB once.
