High Speed impressions

Yeah, the EBs are broken. Checking in the system menu it's set to stop after 4 extra balls per game (or maybe per ball?), but it feels like it gives away more that 4 per game. Maybe it's 4 until each rollover.

Either way, the 1.4m replay EB needs to go. EBs are easy enough to come by via the lit freeway shots, that should be enough. So, ditch that, and ditch the easy ball capture from the hideout exits. My home game doesn't allow that at all, with the ball always bouncing away from the slingshot, not towards it.

4 per ball? Yikes. And could each of those extra balls have a four-ball limit on them? Or is it capped at 4 (so if you have maxed out EBs, then lose one, you can get another)?

I really should know, but I've never played my home game with the intention of EBing the hell out of it.

It's definitely 4 stacked at one time i.e. if you lose one, you can get another.

Endless EBs combined with predictable physics and way too effective nudging makes this yet another table that could theoretically be played forever on TPA.

I love this table because I am on the number one on the score board. Together with 99 % of pinball arcade runners I imagine :D

Not really a super fan of it I suppose it´s good for it´s time and I have more fun with it then the 89 Black knight 2000. Still fun though but hope we get the Getaway. There is a bit to little to do but it´s fun working to increase the ramp bonus and ignoring that upper flipper. One wizard goal left escape shouldn´t be to hard to achieve I have just started multiball by that top ramp before.

One of the most over-hyped tables I've played so far.

I've been hearing on here, for years, how awesome this table was. I finally get to play it, and the best feature it has are the strobe lights. lol

Here's hoping the sequel is much better, because this game certainly wasn't better than "Black Knight 2000", "Who Dunnit?", or "Junk Yard"....not to me anyway.

I have to admit that part of the reason I wanted it was nostalgia. However, I also really love tables from this era. Simpler rule sets, cleaner layouts, and just more fun to play, IMO.

Now if they could somehow recreate the police lights effect, that would be amazing.

I can understand that, and I honestly don't think it's a bad table, but it certainly didn't live up to all the hype I've seen on here over the years.

Already wrote a little about High Speed in another thread.Suffice to say that i love it!Absolutely vintage and classic table.Thx TPA for including it in the library.
Also dig BK2K but definitely prefer High Speed over it.Never played The Getaway. If The Getway is to High Speed what BK2K is to Black Knight then The Getaway must be an absolutely epic table.

Yeah I agree High Speed hasn't aged as well as we all had been thinking. It's certainly a gigantic historical landmark, and the multiball-jackpot sequence was the biggest thrill in pinball in 1986. But for modern eyes, it's rather shallow and doesn't offer much gameplay value compared to everything else in TPA.

Getaway however is indeed absolutely epic and still thoroughly compelling. I'm betting it will be the next real table to surge in value after TPA does it, like happened with STTNG and Ripley's. Same ingredients: all are tables overlooked on the list of all-time greats and overshadowed by others from the same maker at the same time, but joyous to play as everyone rediscovers through TPA.

The Getaway is to High Speed what Super Mario Bros 3 was to Super Mario Bros.

The first one is a fantastic table that made the most out of existing technology/technique and pushed forward with new technology/technique.

The Getaway refines everything about the original, which is why I find it so much better. It's got a sound package that gets the adrenaline flowing, explosions, the sirens, the police constantly chattering after you...just the jackpot sound alone makes me want to go out and drink pure 93 octane gasoline then piss on a fire to show how manly I really am.

Sounds good, can't wait to check it out.

The Getaway is not at all SMB3. I really like The Getaway, but it's almost the exact same game as the original. A more apt comparison would be Raiden to Raiden II, I think. T2 and T3 is Ritchie doing the same thing.

BK2000, on the other hand, is a very different game. Now that would be SMB to SMB3.

The Stern Star Trek looks like a toy remake of STTNG to me in pictures (I haven't seen a real one). Like the $50-150 home editions they used to make.

Oh, it is completely based on STTNG. There are a few wrinkles but anyone familiar with the STTNG playfield will know most of the main shots immediately. Most importantly, the Delta Quadrant ramp is back and is just as much of a b***h.

Plus it now has lens flares.
