i'm an ultra diehard pinball nut who lgged an embarrassingly ridicululous amount of time on TPA, i'm pretty sure that up until about a month ago and since the inception of TPA i had logged on every single day(without fail) to play what ever machine i flavored....but alas, this month i may have logged a total of 2 hours of playing time, and i'm kinda bummed because i LOVE pinball, so i started to ponder why the loss of interest and low and behold i came up with this....answer a) i began to play "the last of us" online in multiplayer, and let me tell you, this is the only game i've ever played that dethrowned the TPA...answer b) it could be that the GOTLIEB machines finally came out on the PS3, and just like i remembered them from the arcade DRAB! gotlieb machines even to a pinball nut like me are the bottom of the barrel...so instead of getting an influx of one or two of some of THE best william's machines like "the comet" "highspeed" "cyclone" or even delta east's "the simpsons"to keep me wanting more, i got some more of gotlieb's undesireables to clutter the table selection map. hopefully my sudden disinterest in TPA won't last long, it's actually beginning to bother me, i keep thinking something is wrong.

I'm kind of there right now, but due to going back to finish the entire project gotham series and the fact that HS2: The Getaway just landed at my local pub.

I'm more scared that TPA has a secret trophy on the PS4 that comes up when you have reached something silly like 100K hrs of play.

Well, you won't have to worry about it for a while then. One hundred thousand hours is about 11.4 years. See ya in 2025.

I'm the in same boat, almost kind of.

I remember first finding out that TPA was coming, then having to wait another 4 months until it actually did (I missed the initial beta by about 2 places, despite begging Farsight), each day checking Facebook (Ughhh) and Android Market (as it was then known) until initial release on Android on 10/2/2012, only to find that my then droid wouldn't show TPA in it's market because it was above 20mb in size, so after hacking it's build.prop file to make my device think it was a HTC sensation when it wasn't, I could finally play it, and I did, every day and each opportunity.

And whilst first happy to be just playing, I soon decided to buy a console especially for TPA. After much deliberation I chose Xbox360, which worked out really well. Then I bought my still current tablet, again mainly for TPA which worked out better.

Eventually though - the at first excusable quality issues, which became less excusable after 18 months, and the same eventual issue as this threads OP, the glut of soulless Gottlieb dlc from the end of season 2, I very nearly walked when Cue Ball Wizard first announced instead of eight ball. That and the fact that the Victory Android table flippers still weren't central to the table artwork over 1 month after release, and the release of a further pack.

But... Things have picked up with season 3.
Quality is vastly improved. Development is improving and visible again. And I've become a little bit obsessed with some of the older season 1 tables that I at first didn't play as much on release (namely MB, STTNG, Rbion, and my constant favourite Black Knight despite its promised ROM emulation not yet happening.)

Irony is - just as my dwindling interest is rekindled, my home life has changed as my wife went back to working (after a 5yr break), and my work role has changed and accelerated, only today having another change. So now I don't get chance to play as much anymore . This week I've played about 1hr total.
And now I'm really missing it.

I find I like to play The Pinball Arcade mainly when tournaments are going on each month or when a new table is released. Lately I have been playing MyVegas slots and Monopoly slots on iOS while waiting for the latest tournament. Kind of weird I am playing the machines that killed off Bally/Williams tables. I think mixing it up a bit is pretty normal for any gamer.

if i would play only TPA for 5 days in a row, then it could be ended with trip to nuthouse for me.

Sorry man - I've got a lot of love for Black Hole, and Victory isn't far behind it.
I would have loved to play it with the lower level from the initial whitewood's.

to topic starter: right answer is
C) i'm afraid you are not "an ultra diehard pinball nut" as you think, just because otherwise you would atleast know how to write "Gottlieb" and "Data East"

I`ve lost no interest at all , I always alternate between TPA and FORZA 5 .now I alternate between TPA and NEED FOR SPEED RIVALS.i find if you alternate between games it`s like having a holiday.i`ve also alternated between TPA and LEGO SUPER HEROES, ZEN PINBALL. now I`m waiting for DRIVE CLUB and the one I`m really can`t wait for THE CREW which you can drive any street, mountain, race track beach in the USA,that`s right any place in the USA,you can drive east coast to west coast in about 75 minutes, how good is that !!!!!

I'll take a totally different tack and be the pedantic grammarian with: Loose laces lose races :p h/t - @Jared

When TPA first came out it was soo easy to put 3+ hours in per day. I would play on any device that supported it, on the bus, the train, waiting at the Dr's office etc. Now I'll put in 10-20 hours a month on my droid and maybe 1-2 hours on PC a month, mostly during and just after the beta is done.

I don't get all the hate for the Gottlieb tables myself, I found them to be a nice change and a welcome amount of variety in TPA. They may have been welcomed more graciously had they not been introduced as one block but mixed throughout, but that was obviously a marketing decision and there have been a wealth of marketing decisions to not agree with, but this is not the topic to discuss licorice.

You've all heard this before. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Everything in moderation.

I generally play TPA for a week or two every time a new table pack comes out (or, as I'm a PS3 owner, every time two come out).

This way it keeps fresh and doesn't become a grind. I could get a lot better if I played nothing but it, but it would be a lot less fun.

Well, I felt the same way about The Williams Pinball Hall of Fame. I probably played it nearly every day between 2008-2009 and then got got burned out on it. It wasn't until Pinball Arcade came out on the PS3 with improved graphics and physics that I really got back into playing it on a daily basis again. Oh course TPA kept me interested longer with new table DLC.

I'd have to say my interest started to decline around the release of T2 and the the lack of new trophies.

I'm hoping the PS4 version of TPA renews my interest a bit.
Also, if The Simpsons tables were to come out, that would probably keep me playing for an extra year as well. :)
