New Addams family movie planned - what does this mean for a TAF TPA kickstarter?

The Addams Family is one of those licenses that will always remain popular, it's not likely to fade away just because a movie hasn't been made for 15 years (and that last movie was a big flop).
I somehow doubt the movie license is that big of a problem anyway. It's not, like, Spiderman or Simpsons (both of which I'd also consider rather doable, considering how much official merchandise they keep getting). However, each of the actors involved need to be dealt with separately, which is likely to work up the price. But really, all we can do is guess, I bet FS don't even know how expensive it would be yet.

This is terrible, terrible news. This is probably why Paramount didn't want to talk to Farsight.

damn... an animated Addams family movie... no... please no...

Do you realize that the Addams Family started out as cartoons, mostly published in The New Yorker magazine?

They didn't exist as anything other than single panel cartoons from 1938 until 1964, when the first TV Series came out.

Just so long as they don't simply reprise the Addams Family animated cartoons from the mid 1970s, I'm not going to write off the potential of animated Addams.
I'm not familliar enough with the early 1990s animated cartoon series to comment on them.

I wouldn't have minded the Tim Burton stop motion film that had been previously proposed.

Yes I know there was stuff before the movie.
But it's 2013, and the only thing they see is the cash register... now more than ever...
They are ruining things with all their remakes and all their digging up old franchise because they are out of ideas...

meh they're ruining it for our generation, not for kids.

They love the new TMNT and Transformers stuff. TMNT is arguably more popular now than it has ever been.

Exactly the same case with the 1991 movie..

Well, the new TMNT is also arguably a pretty good "remake", too. Especially that 3D animated movie made a few years ago. It's entirely a kids' movie, but with that in mind I think it's the best Turtles movie I have seen. Of course, it doesn't take much to be better than those awful live action 90's movies.

Stop the Tim Burton re-make madness, please. For all that is good and watchable.

I grew up with the idea that Tim Burton was a great movie maker, but in recent years I have slowly come to realise that he has almost nothing to offer. If it weren't for the masterpiece that is Big Fish, I'd speculate that he has no talent.

We're talking about the rumored Addams Family by Tim Burton a few years ago (featuring Johnny Depp of course...)

Tim Burton remake = Tim Burton remaking old movies for no apparent purpose or avail (Planet of the Apes, Alice, Willy Wonka). Not remakes OF Tim Burton movies - I'm not sure that has ever happened. :)

I always hated the Addams movies from the 90's. Truly terrible. I hope if they do a remake, they can do it justice and not bastardize the characters.

Tim Burton has not done anything that good lately. Dark Shadows was a complete joke that crapped all over the source material. The only really good thing he's done was Frankenweenie, which is a remake of a Tim Burton short film! So there has been a Burton remake, and it was done by himself!

What's wrong with the 90's Addams Family movies?

I was never an Addams fan, but I always found those movies entertaining. I love Christopher Lloyd in almost anything he's been in.

I also liked those two movies. But I never watched anything else from Addams family to be honest...

For me I grew up watching Addams Family reruns. The movies really took a major departure from everything I knew and loved about the characterization. Not to mention that, despite having some really solid actors, the performances seemed quite forced and uninspired. Very cheesy and the plot was awful too. That's just my take though. There were certainly remakes that were far worse.

I thought Addams Family was supposed to be cheesy. What did they take a departure from?

I thought the tv show was OK. I thought the movies did a better job being cheesy but also making fun of the cheese as well. I also think that Tim Burton has done some really good movies. Just thought I'd throw that out there that there are some people on this forum that do like these things.
