I do have a friend in London from whom I've picked up a few choice bits of the Queen's English, but "not my cup of tea" wasn't one of them. People here in the Midwest say that phrase all the time. I never knew it was British in origin (although it makes perfect sense now).

I'd prefer Family Guy over TSPP. But I'm sure I'm in the minority on that one.

My order of preference would be...TAF, AC/DC, LOTR, Tron LE, Family Guy, Indy, TSPP, Congo
. Kolchak357, I love Family Guy, I loved it so much it got me into the TV show. If I could inherit money I would love to buy the full size Pinball Machines The Wizard Of Oz, and Family Guy and wouldn't be bored for a long time. When I first played Family Guy I think I put about $20.00 in that machine and never got board of it. I hope Steve Ellenoff will figure out how to Emulate the S.A.M. System someday, theirs tons of those Stern Pinball Machines I would back up with Kickstarters big time.

I know taste is subjective but how can anyone think TAF is overrated? Right now it's #6 on IPDB. You think it deserves to be lower?

That's probably about right for real tables, in my opinion. But one thing about TAF is that once you get the hang of it, it's not particularly challenging. Any time I run into one in the wild, it usually doesn't take more than a few games before I learn the particulars of the table (swamp/chair kickouts, slingshot strength, rubber bounce) and then getting multiball/tour the mansion isn't tough at all.

So when I think about what TAF would be like on TPA... oof. Shoot chair. Predictable chair kickout, probably can regain control with a bounce pass. Shoot Bear Ramp. Repeat.

Don't get me wrong: If TPA is meant to be a digital museum, it would be woefully incomplete without TAF. But thinking about the most enjoyable TPA experiences, I would certainly be more excited about, at least, TSPP, LOTR and Family Guy.

I love how people have been absolutely begging for TAF since day 1, pleading and crossing fingers, and then at the first sign it might actually have some forward traction, there's this wave of "oh I was really hoping for something else".

As a parent, who hears this kind of pleading from his kid about a particular toy that might not have been the easiest thing to find and then hears that same kind of reaction upon opening it up at Xmas, it drives me bonkers. I know he likes it, and I know he'd have been equally disappointed had he not gotten it, but it really makes me think twice about the effort I might have had to go through to get it in the first place. Appreciate and encourage the efforts that are put before you. Enough with the "I'd rather" talk.

SYT, are you sure it's the same people? You may be right, but I know that for me, at least, you're not going to find any posts where I'm begging for TAF.

Some people have expressed TAF excitement since day one. Some would prefer other tables now. They're not necessarily the same people. Just because the consensus of one thread is different from the consensus of another, doesn't mean individual people are waffling on their views.

And to play devil's advocate: When PHOF came out, I was very much "WHERZ MA ADDAMS?!?!?!" But I know pinball a lot better now than I did then. Opinions can change. Most of us are adults here, and comparing us to your kid will win you no favors. People are allowed to change their minds and want different things.

Call it a general tone across many aspects of TPA that has become the norm in these forums. It's not limited to TAF, but TAF is certainly the poster child for it. So yes, I am making a broad general statement, a stereotype if you will. I see a lot of "I'd rather they did Simpsons or Indy than TAF", and I'd put money down that if either of those were announced, the "I'd rather" statements would follow too. Just seems that a lot of us tried to temper everyone's expectations about actually getting TAF into TPA so the non stop barrage of "gee thanks for X table, now do TAF" would come to a trickle, and now I'm seeing the opposite. It's almost passive aggressive.

And no, I'm not calling anyone a child. I'm giving a frame of reference for why this is irritating me. I do that a lot in my posts, because you lot don't know me outside of what I write. In this case it gives you the opportunity to go, "oh, he's a parent. That figures."

I don't think it's people being passive-aggressive. I think it's people reacting to FarSight's pretty brazen dangling of the TAF carrot during T2's kickstarter.

I just hope for all of our sakes they can follow through, or we really will have chaos.

The thing that sucks is Indiana Jones probably can't happen. Disney owns it and they are very hard to deal with in terms of put their characters in stuff. Disney might even say something like they don't want to be associated with a game that has this or that table in it, because they are weird like that. Gorgar for example might be misconstrued as some type of satanic evil table that would scare the minds of children (lol). Star Wars and Indiana Jones are probably off the table unfortunately :( Family Guy or the Simpsons would without a doubt bring in more people than any other possible license. Addams Family is a beloved classic table by pinball lovers everywhere and is a great table. however when it comes to marketability and reaching a wider audience the property itself is old and not as big of a draw with as large of a following as the Simpsons is. Family Guy comes very close but with it's much tamer family correct appeal Simpsons is something many people of all ages love. Whereas allot of parent don't want their children watching family guy because it's 40% rape jokes and other questionable material they shouldn't see.

What's funny is that I've seen this happen with plenty of tables that have been released too: "Where's my Cactus Canyon/Champion Pub/Circus Voltaire/Whirlwind?" only for it to arrive, people play a few games and go "Oh, it's not what I wanted". We've gotten most of the top 10 pinball games of all time and yet people seem to care more about the next table that comes out.

And in fairness, we're all guilty of it, and it's not like that's how we'll always react. I remember being very disappointed in ST:TNG after it hit despite kickstarting it and doing plenty of research into it, it's only in the past few days I decided to have a long session on it and realised what everyone sees in it.

not my cup of tea is a very common phrase all over the world. I love the similar phrase "it's not exactly the cat's meow". What I find funny is that we still get called "yanks" on the regular but when was the last time you heard someone call a pommy "a red coat".

Very true. A lot of people are always looking for the next big thing. It doesn't matter that they have pretty much the best of the best...it's always not enough. Not respecting and coveting what I already own and treasure is just not my cup of tea.

Well,if you are going by lists - in Pinside's Top 50 pins,by my count - these are the ones that shouldn't have licensing issues:

  1. Fish Tales
  2. Earthshaker
  3. Xenon

These have,as an educated guess - minor licensing issues:

  • The Getaway: High Speed 2
  • Road Show
  • Judge Dredd

Everything else in the Top 50 either has a license or few attached to them, can't be emulated in TPA yet,Capcom & JJP titles,or is already in TPA

IPDB is almost the same - just add these pins to the list:

  • Diner
  • High Speed
  • Cyclone
  • Who Dunnit?
  • Party Zone
  • Swords of Fury
  • Banzai Run

My point being, that there are a bunch of tables on those lists that would most likely need a KS.

What happens to TPA when we reach that point?

That being said,I think FS will do everything in its power to have TAF be the next KS. After that, while I'd love to see Indiana Jones - that won't happen yet with Disney in the mix.

While I'd like to see LOTR next - The Simpsons would probably be an easier & more popular KS/license to sell to JQP. So, that's my guess.

I would say we then pick other options from this list. When you look at what we could be playing easily with not as much kickstarters needed...these tables start looking perfect as a solution.

I think Kickstarters should be Licences that are still relevant and can be used as a "Shop Window" to raise profile and bring new players to the Arcade,

Any of the top 5 in the Premium Licensed poll fit the bill perfectly, namely

1) Indiana Jones : The Pinball Adventure (Williams, 1993)
2) The Simpsons Pinball Party (Stern, 2003)
3) The Lord of the Rings (Stern, 2003)
4) Star Wars (Data East, 1992)
5) Doctor Who (Bally, 1992)

You've also got neverending shows like Family Guy and Movie remakes like Robocop with huge fanbases too.
