Really? #89 on the ranks? Oh well, at least we made some progress. Let's keep spreading the word!

"Pinball Arcade is now #89 on Greenlight! If we can keep getting the word out we're very optimistic we can make it into the top 20 where we need to be."

Does anyone actually understand how Steam derive these chart positions, apart from Steam themselves? I mean, can a game go down the chart as well as Up? If PA is competing with other games then it's harder for a niche product to get anywhere. It's hard to have any faith in this process when Steam are so secretive and cloak and dagger like. What we really need to know is if PA is on there long enough will it make it. Or as new games come on board, will PA go down the chart.

I would say a game would easily go down by being displaced by other games. If TPA moved up 3 positions, someone had to go down. I don't know much about the process but it seems the voting is only based on total votes to date.

I'd like to stay positive about this but that tiny pessimist in the back of my mind is starting to grow like an ugly cancer eating away any hope of this happening by next greenlight deadline. Is it even possible to get from 89 and up 70+ places in 3 weeks when they moved 3 places the first week? Please someone, tell me I'm wrong!

On the positive - you should move 20 places all at once, when the next 20 get greenlit.

Have you guys thought about putting up the new videos/screenshots of the new tables, including the Developing the TZ, onto your Greenlight page? And have you tried going to other sites to help spread the word of this? Might help you out.

So let me get this right TPA need to be in the top 10 for the game to get green lite...and at the moment there at 85 odd position?? Is there a time frame in when TPA needs to get into the top 10?, as to be total honest i think all the votes has slowed down now and in this respect is alot like kickstarter campaigns, has a big surge to start of with and then slows down which i think is whats happened for TPA on Greenlight now. If FS does manage to somehow get in the top 10 then its going to take a good while, at least till the middle of 2013 at the very earliest!?, and with new games being added for voting in Greenlight (dare i saw more popular games than TPA) all the time i really cant see TPA getting into the to 10 for ages if ever are PC users going to wait around this long before they lose interest in the PC version!?

So are FS looking at other alternatives, i think the only option FS have is Windows 8 to be fair. What are peoples views on this?

I think that may be a fair evaluation, lettuce.
Perhaps FS might consider looking at GOG.com for their PC release.

Just my humble $.02

Another option than steam is preferable, (they will sell more copies on steam though so I can understand their reluctance)but I hope it is not win 8. I am not ready to install a new windows system yet. Timelord, they can not use GOG because of the DRM problem (their License deal do not allow it)

I agree, but I'm not sure about Windows 8.

What about Amazon Digital Games?

Edit: also, EA's Origin accepts third-party games now, so that's another option.

There's actually lots of other avenues other than Steam, GOG and Win 8. Aside from Steam and GOG, there's several other online distribution services FS could potentially contact, like Origin, Gamefly, Gamersgate, Desura and DotEmu. Why FS doesn't want to try them is anyone's guess, unless there's something they're not telling us. Aside from Desura, I've purchased games from all the above mentioned services, so I honestly don't care where TPA eventually ends up on PC.

Seriously, putting it on Win 8 only is just going to alienate the majority of people. Win 8 just came out so there's going to be lots of bugs and/or compatiblitly(sp?) issues. Most people aren't going to upgrade just yet (heck, I'm still on Vista and have no need to get Win 7, let alone Win 8). Either they don't see the need to do so, or they're going to wait til the kinks are ironed out first. TPA won't get much sales if only a few people have Win 8, and even then they may not even like pinball.

Good post.

There are several other viable options. I think it's time to give up on Steam.

I read on ign that steam is going to be utilized for digital distribution for nintendo's new console. Not sure if that is for all games, third party games or what. I honestly skimmed it. If tpa is a definite for wii u maybe that could get steam to relax their position and release it on pc. On the other hand would it screw them out of a wii u release?

Greenlight is now the only way to get game on Steam for developers that don't have any history with Valve.

Greenlight FAQ: said:
Who should submit their games to Steam Greenlight? Is there another way to submit my game to Steam?
Steam Greenlight has replaced our previous submission process. Any developer or publisher who is new to Steam and interested in submitting their game to the platform should submit their game through Steam Greenlight.
And small devs like Wadjet Eye Games who have games on Steam still have to go through Greenlight for their new game.

So competition on Greenlight will rise and getting to the top 10-20 will be even harder. :(

Hmmm, interesting....I wonder if Farsight is considering this, too.

No, no, no, a thousand times no, to Windows 8. I have a perfectly good Windows 7 machine that I have no desire to "upgrade".

If it's on the Windows 8 store in addition to somewhere else, that's one thing. But the vast majority of users are happy on 7 or even XP and are not going to venture into the brave new world of Windows 8 just for TPA.
