Terrible term, isn't it?
For one thing downloadable is not two words. But beyond that, what isn't downloadable these days? With respect to The Pinball Arcade the whole product is downloadable. But that term is left over from circa 2002 when it referred specifically to add-on content for retail products that was distributed digitally.
"Add-on Content" is a much better term, but it won't be adopted. We're stuck with the misnomer DLC for the foreseeable future.
I see someone's busting out their Latin...Not to mention the horrible contradictio in terminis "on-disc DLC"

downloadable content
Shouldn't it be 'DC' then if there referring to 'Downloadable' as one word?
Otherwise it should be 'Down Loadable Content' ???
I always call that WHC. Withheld Content. And it fits with the first two letters coming from one word thing.
It's because "download" has often been abbreviated "DL" (like upload UL).
