What if TPA doesn't get more rights to Williams tables?

HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION, THIS IS NOT SPECULATION

They can't survive on Gottliebs. Does that mean they can still make Bally tables? Or would that not be allowed anymore either?

They would have to dive into some of the more rare Capcom tables. Data East has too many licensed tables to really bother with.

As far as i know this means both williams and bally are out and if they don't get this renewed i will never have a chance of seeing EBD again

While I am not privy to the negotiations, this would be FarSight's third licensing arrangement with WMS. I can't imagine some problem has suddenly come up that wouldn't have existed before. The lawyers are probably just taking longer than usual to do their thing. I wouldn't freak out just yet.

Yeah, let's not even start to get this kind of fear mongering going. This is Williams/Bally maintaining a little control over their product, as was established all along. While FarSight can make any table they choose, there has been some slight nudging on William's part as to doing certain tables sooner than others.

Keep calm, have patience, all is right in the world!

I'm not trying to fear monger. I'm just saying hypothetically how would FarSight approach the situation if this was the case.

It's quite doubtful that FarSight can comment on any ongoing contract negotiations, and also most likely that they can comment much at all on existing contracts they have.

Wild speculation without information isn't going to do anything helpful for anyone.

This isn't speculation. It's a hypothetical situation.

People are so sensitive on this forum. I edited the first post so people stop overreacting.

If this happened, then we would get more Gottlieb and early Sterns until people stop buying them. Then RIP Pinball Arcade.

Bally falls under WMS.

But there's really nothing to worry about. They had to do this after PHOF, so it's not like they've never had to deal with it before.

I wouldn't worry about that, especially after such a great review from a very popular gaming news site (IGN). WMS undoubtedly sees the profit in TPA and will most likely renew no problem.

Exactly. The reason for the Gottliebs lately was addressed by Farsight themselves in the latest podcast. That reason was so they could negotiate more Bally Williams, and perhaps DE/Sega/Capcom tables as well, who knows.

To answer your question, what would happen? Lot's of Gottliebs and Sterns. I don't think the game would survive very long under those circumstances.

I don't predict gloom and doom.

I'd buy all the Gottlieb and Sterm tables they release.
I don't think I'm alone.

They are too much of a bargain. The entertainment value is there for damn near any tables they could release.
A few bucks for two tables that I would have unlimited play on for years?

I just don't see the same negative as you predict.
A table not in the top 300 is still a table I'd be able to play cheaply vs. not having additional tables to play at all.

I think it's Farsight simply putting the rest of PHoF onto TPA. Remember, there were TWO PHoFs - the Gottlieb Collection and the Williams/Bally Collection.

Most of the WMS ones have been done, but very very few of the Gottlieb, so I think they're simply trying to right that boat because while there aren't many, there are still af ew Gottlieb fans.

Though I too admit to not liking much of season 2 because of it. I did give them a try, but wow, they didn't hold my interest at all - Teed Off maybe held my interest the longest, but even then it's a week.

And we really need a new way of organizing tables. It's getting unwieldy.

Think about it... how else are the Williams license holders going to make any money nowadays? Between TPA and the MM repro they're not exactly a cash cow. I don't think they will want to axe one of their only ways of milking the brand.

Williams makes slot and video poker machines by the truckload. Licensing of their old pinball machines is just a drop in the proverbial bucket for them.

I didn't know that. I thought the actual company was bust and they just acted as license holders. I stand corrected. Still don't think it's anything to worry about, though.

The biggest (only?) threat would be that some other video pinball company jumped in to outbid FarSight on the licences...
