Why are new machines nearly twice what they were before the industry crash?

I miss the days of a pinball machine being in every pub I went in in the 80's (even though I was 10). Dad used to tell me if I was a good boy and behaved (and didn't kick anyone in the head, Serenseven) I could play pinball!! This tactic worked
