How much pinball do you play? (or have you played)

Not much. I play maybe four days a year. I've got places (NYC with Modern Pinball and a few others) that are nearby but just far enough out of the way that I don't go often. I played most, several hours a week, when I had my home machine, a Terminator 2. Then my parents moved to Virginia and...

Table of the Week Club...Week 60: CLASS OF 1812

Protip: just turn off the music in the table options, which also kills most of the speech but you still get the mechanical and game sound effects. Multiball millions or single ball alternating ramps? Why not both! When the million light gets lit by multiball, it stays lit even if multiball...

(An attempt at) The top 40 TPA players from leaderboard scores

Yeah, I get the burnout Slam23, I've kinda retired from competition here too. I have no interest in playing any of the twelve hour infinityable tables any more. I did recently put up the non-infinite scores on Jack*bot and Ripley's that I always knew I was capable of, and then within a month...

    Pro Pinball

BRUSA and Fantastic Journey had the physics customization options (flipper strength, slope, playfield wear) in the original releases. Timeshock never did. It's been on their list of things to add for the Ultra version, but it's behind about 255 million other features.

    TPA needs physics like this?

It's more like the live-catch is too perfect. It instantly sets the ball speed to exactly zero every time. There's never a near-miss when you almost get all of the ball's momentum but it still bounces or trickles just a little bit. The older tables that had the ramp-vacuum (Creature...

(An attempt at) The top 40 TPA players from leaderboard scores

Casino Run never dries up completely for EBs. The chance is very low, maybe 1% per spin, and you might go 10 Runs before seeing an EB, but it never goes completely to zero. Dizzer seems to be implying that the frequency comes back up; I'm doubtful of that, but maybe something overflows after...

    Table of the Week Club...Week 58: JACK*BOT

I don't think this is any more accurate per-shot, but it yields much safer rebounds on a miss to try again. Patience and discipline is the key. You and everybody. I've done it a handful of times but very inconsistently; my high 190B game never got it. Doesn't seem to be any railroadable...

    Table of the Week Club...Week 58: JACK*BOT

Cheating slots doesn't give you the poker cards, it gives an EB. But yes, it could be worthwhile to restart until you get the poker cards, that's a big slingshot towards the poker and bonus totals. But even I got bored of restarting and waiting for that. It might be necessary in a 20-minute...

    Bug Looking For Pinballs

I know it happened once when I saw three balls enter the lower scoop at the same time and only two ever came out. But more often a ball gets lost somewhere around the upper bumpers behind the upper scoop. The chance doesn't rise with game length, but it is more common with big multiballs...

    Table of the Week Club...Week 58: JACK*BOT

Yes, short-plunging to avoid the jets works and you should do it. It helps to be good at mid-air nudging to get the ball safely to a flipper. Going for the skill shot is OK at the start of a ball when you have ball saver protection, but not after a lock or a ramp shot into the plunger. Yes...

Apr. 1, 2016 tourney: R911/PZone, RS, DrDude, Genie, SC, WWind, Victory, Centaur

Does AOTV count for Safecracker in a tournament? It shouldn't if anyone has any sense, they are completely different games with nothing at all to do with each other besides being on the same playfield. Counting AOTV is as stupid as counting Jack*Bot scores for a Pin*Bot tournament.

(An attempt at) The top 40 TPA players from leaderboard scores

Yeah, no way 500M on Space Shuttle in 2 hours is possible. There could be other explanations: the Steam profile isn't updating the hours correctly, or that he's playing from a different Steam profile (which can still post to the same Farsight account). Or even our old chestnut that the score...

(An attempt at) The top 40 TPA players from leaderboard scores

The same thing just happened to me. Steam shows TPA as last played March 29, but my new Whirlwind #1 score says March 30. I finished the game at 11 pm US Eastern time on March 29. Best guess is that the leaderboard works in UTC and doesn't adjust for local time zones. (How could it? It...

    The Pinball Arcade table ratings

Because you still need several more shots to accelerate to 9.9.

(An attempt at) The top 40 TPA players from leaderboard scores

I think "Last played" on Steam really means "Last launched". If he started the game before midnight and finished after, you'd see different dates for last-played and the score. It's also possible that Steam and Farsight handle time zones differently, which matters a lot if FUUTA is in Japan...

    your multiball strategy!

Hold, hold, hold. Your shooting percentage goes way up when shooting from caught balls rather than flailing loosely. Flailing and juggling feels fun but you're not getting the results. The biggest skill is in getting control of a second ball while you're already holding one. The major trick...

What do you think is the toughest skill shot in TPA?

I think both Cyclone and Taxi aren't deterministic in the plunge. I'm pretty sure there's a random component, if not to the plunger itself, then to the rebounds from the walls as the ball goes into the spiral. Just full-strength plunging on either table doesn't always give the same result...

Question about TPA licensing in public places

Whatever license exists between Farsight and the pinball manufacturers doesn't matter to an end-user. I never signed or bought anything from Williams. Williams can't tell me how to use Farsight's software. Farsight's own EULA does apply though, at least to the extent that any software EULA...

(An attempt at) The top 40 TPA players from leaderboard scores

Minor concern but I notice it: the acronym mouseover help turns the text black and overrides any other color setting, so this looks kind of messy and doesn't properly highlight the #1 scores. I'm not sure if you can do anything to fix that, but maybe with admin help?

Table of the Week Club...Week 55: ROAD SHOW

You know there's an even easier way? Just catch on the left and post pass to the right. A post pass is fast enough that you won't drop a ball pinned by the mini-flipper.
