PC tourney 2015-08-28: HS2, PZone, Diner, BK2K, GoinNuts, Centaur, ToM, RBIoN

Yes, Ripley's is all about North America. The Bigfoot jackpot raises by 100k for every continent scoop shot, to a max of 2M. So grind that first (I'll let you figure out how) up to near 2M, then start shooting jackpots. Keep Bigfoot going long enough for 40M worth of jackpots, then recollect...

    Fluke

Yeah, this happens even to me. There's a perfectly logical explanation. When you're starting on a table, you shoot at just whatever you can hit, with decent success. Then you learn the rules, and overfocus on what you need to shoot, forcing shots even when the ball isn't lined up well for it...

    Table pack #43 speculation

#43 would release in late September and be the current table for most of October. #44 would have only a week or so before the holiday itself.

    Table Pack #42 Speculation

Great news. F-14 is the one 80s table where Farsight's style of overly violent kickers and flippers will actually get the experience correct!

What do you feel is the most overrated table in Pinball Arcade?

It's the same deal as Earthshaker vs Whirlwind that came up in another thread. The original game of each pairing falls flat because it has no escalation, no tension, there's nothing to do after one jackpot. But the later game of each is much more compelling, because there's always more to go...

What Table do you play most? and why?

What's crazy about MM's multiball? It's just a standard shoot-all-the-jackpots deal, same as any number of other Williams games. Adding Trolls to a running Multiball Madness is mildly interesting, but still far short of the stacking you can do in games like Dracula or Ripley's or even TZ. MM...

    Rate tables in Season 4

The problem with Earthshaker is easy. There's nothing to do during multiball, one jackpot and you're done. You don't have the tension of trying to escalate the million-plus as on Whirlwind and Funhouse. Those games have you knowing you'll nail it next time (you won't, but you know it anyway)...

Is there anyone that can dumb down the licensing deals Farsight has?

http://www.pinrepair.com/wms/willy15.htm Question: How do you decide which game is manufactured under the Bally label or which one under the Williams label? Answer: This has been one of the industry's most closely guarded secrets. Unfortunately Pat Lawlor let his guard down at the last Pinball...

Written transcript of Part 1 questions with Bobby...

That's not the right metric. Big Shot gets more games because they're shorter. Play time is the right metric, not gameplay sessions. You could play one game of Twilight Zone for two hours, then ten games of Big Shot in one hour, and Big Shot looks ten times more popular even though you spent...

What do you feel is the most overrated table in Pinball Arcade?

No, same here. MM is overrated both as a real pin and the TPA implementation is also mediocre. The rules around Trolls and Multiball Madness are so clunky, if you accidentally hit Merlin's too early, it's a massive setback that you have to go all the way around through Royal Madness to try...

Table with Easiest and Hardest Wizard Goals?

It works like on Black Hole. You have to go in order, but you can continue where you left off after the bank resets (unlike ORBS in Centaur.) But the tight timer on the special doesn't permit enough hits to work through a reset, so functionally it has to go directly in order.

Table with Easiest and Hardest Wizard Goals?

Victory: the key is to know that you must go in order on F-U-E-L. You do NOT have time to miss out of order and complete the bank to reset the targets. The trick is patience - take the second to get a cradle on the left flipper, and you can reliably backhand the next target you need (even F.)

(An attempt at) The top 40 TPA players from leaderboard scores

Yeah, don't include AOTV. It'd be like including LITZ champion. It's just a bonus mode. And Safecracker shouldn't be double-represented compared to all the rest of the tables.

Tee'd Off or No Good Gophers? which is best? let the debate begin.

Nitpick, but this and most similar elements in tables are polynomial (quadratic), not exponential. The total score from things like NGG's escalating multiball jackpots runs as N2 with the number of jackpots, not 2N which would be exponential. Compare 102 with 210 to see the difference. One of...

    Table Pack #41 Speculation

Actually simulating dirt particles would be quite the task, but you can get pretty close by just increasing and varying the friction with the table surface. And like most questions related to pinball simulation physics, Pro Pinball already did this way ahead of everyone else, eighteen years ago. :)

PC tourney 2015-07-31: SC, SpSh, WWind, Firepwr, Vctry, HH, Fl2000, JY

I'm inclined to agree, but the thing is the general TPA offness hits Junkyard right where it hurts. Mostly how TPA's flippers are anemically weak up the middle on any kind of rolling shot. You can't have fun whacking on the wrecking ball like you're supposed to, and the jackpot shot is a lot...

PC tourney 2015-07-31: SC, SpSh, WWind, Firepwr, Vctry, HH, Fl2000, JY

I know. I played it when it was the free monthly table and had enough of it in two days. The tuning is below average but I don't quite think it's the worst in TPA, I'd rate Haunted House and High Roller Casino below it. But just as a pinball game apart from anything of Farsight's, it's pretty...

PC tourney 2015-07-31: SC, SpSh, WWind, Firepwr, Vctry, HH, Fl2000, JY

I won't be. Busy elsewhere this week, don't feel like playing the same lousy tables in HH and Victory over again, and don't feel like buying Junkyard in which I have no interest otherwise.
