Yep, middle drains are fairly frequent but manageable by nudging. Outlanes are not that hungry. Still love the signature Locksley ,especially now that I got a real LOTR at home! Have yet to destroy the Ring..... :)
I like it, it's a bit simple rule-wise but plays smoothly. I love the different flipper feel. It's a great table to have in the line-up. HOF requirement may be a bit easy this time, got around 6M on my third or fourth game, good for 400+ HOF points. And, did I see the first live catches? I did...
Nice of you to say that, actually I was a PC/keyboard kid all my life and only used a gamepad for basketball games. I fondly remember the Apple IIe IJKL and AZ<> layouts for movement before the numpad and WASD+mouse became standard on the PC. Upgrading from an iPad 2 to an iPad Air 2 was a major...
I leave the iPad on when taking a break from a good game, I just have to remember to keep it charged at the same time too... :) It's not the most eco-friendly way of doing things, but that way I'm sure I can pick up the game again (often only to burn through the remaining balls at lightspeed. I...
Excellent post, dealing with all those glitches is evolving into some sort of metagame for the big whales around here. I do wonder though if it could be fixed by Farsight. Or is it so thoroughly ROM-based that this is impossible?
It hates me more.... :) and I'm not so sure if I'm loving it back
I only scored 70M+ twice now and both times I got lucky that MB let me score up to 8M on million-plus before releasing the other two balls. Could be faulty ROM behaviour? In any other case, MB is an ugly flailfest, without any...
Although TPA often does a good job on the rules, they sometimes miss (little) things. Haven't found them to be wrong often though. Rulesheets that were made for IRL tables - back in the time when there were no virtual recreations - and which can be found on the internet in ASCII-style text files...
I can't get past 79M, just scored 78 today....I hate it when this happens! That 161M score would still only account for 300+ HOF points on iOS, so go figure....
I would pitch in for those two too. I read somewhere that the trouble with the Dr. Who license could be that there are a lot of different actors that played the dr. in the series and that they all are figured in the game. I don't know if this is true though, because I don't know the table that well.
LOTR, my alltime favorite after a long love affair with Indy '93 because of college nostalgia. I actually own a real LOTR since a week, and I couldn't be happier! I had it restored and polished by a company in Germany and they did a wonderful job. With the playfield protector, it looks and plays...
I would say that stating something like this in general is hard because the IRL tables are known to differ from each other too, sometimes very much so, depending on level of maintenance and specific setup (angle of playfield for example). I did a in-depth comparison a while back...
Good to know you get around doing other things....:)
I also really enjoy season 4. Not everything released is my taste exactly but I'm impressed with the physics tuning, how every table also feels different from the others, and the pacing of goals and HOF points feel more "right". I would...
Yeah, that's disappointing for sure. Second gripe for me would be the long waiting queues for new machines of which exactly one prototype each is brought to the show, and those break down too after two hour.....
Hi LAW,
I'm happy to hear about that shift in focus, thanks for communicating that. Aside from some habitual complainers and a lone troll, most TPA fans here are just that, an enthusiastic bunch of pinheads that love this app. I have participated in far worse internet communities. Speaking for...
Nothing makes me more sad than badly maintained pins on location. I vividly remember my first live game of LOTR, one of my alltime favorites (played it to death on VP). I was beyond giddy to find one IRL! I pumped in my quarter and started to play. I could plunge the ball but from there it went...
Sadly, there is no diagonal down nudge on iOS (only up), which would make perpendicular sense indeed given that outlane situation. Then again, that would be a difficult move in IRL also :)
You really like that lane change? I get a bit frustrated with it, especially with Centaur dissing you if...
I've experimented with a lot of nudging strategies on this table, especially to recreate the IRL nudging to save those outlane drains back through those inlane gates, not a whole lot of success up until now. Best results seem to come from doing nothing at all...:) I dislike that strange...
Nice write-up VikingErik, I was surprised to see you post this because I though you restricted yourself to seasons 1 and 2. Good to make exceptions for tables that you really like, bad news for high score hunters because they'll have to deal with you on more tables now... :)
Just wanted to add...
