TOTAN is a weird exception on high score strategy. You must exploit the glitch of stacking an endless Genie Battle with either Harem Multiball or 3x Lightning Lamp. That can score hundreds of millions at once, which nothing else on the table does. I haven't bothered to try. Don't bother...
I'm not #1. Tarek Oberdieck is better, probably so is Sir Moovenstein. Tarek just started recently and hasn't gotten to all the TPA tables yet. I have no idea how he puts up stuff like 19k on Central Park, 17M on Genie, 1.4M on Big Shot, 9M on Haunted House. I'm not anywhere near half those...
I wanted to write this down for myself, so figured I might as well do it here for everyone to share. What wizard modes and awards have you reached on real machines? Let's say that any settings on a real arcade location machine are okay (like 5 balls, buyins, narrow outlanes) but a home use...
At the risk of sounding like a major egotist, I'm in the top ten. I have six or so legit #1 scores, a number of other top tens, and can reach top 20 on most tables I seriously try to.
At these levels, it's hard to identify any clear #1 player just based on scores, because many tables let you...
TPA in Pro mode works exactly like VP. Everything is saved there even across TPA program restarts, as Sean said upthread.
When not in Pro mode, TPA always resets the ROM to a known state to protect the integrity of the leaderboards. TPA really doesn't know what you're doing in the operator...
LTR post passes are possible, I can do them with some reliability. The trick is to flip extremely early, almost as if you're trying to send the ball up the left inlane. During DOUBLE is when it's worthwhile.
I don't understand why post passes are so asymmetric on some tables. STTNG won't let...
TPA can handle 3d physics, like CV's ringmaster throw or the NGG Hole-in-One shot or MM's troll popping up under a ball. But yeah, the ball never leaves the table unless something deliberately makes it.
Would we really want airballs though? We've already got enough problems with the ball...
I would doubt it. I'm sure Farsight would want to, but the commercial value just isn't there. The proportion of players who refuse to buy them scripted but would buy them emulated can't be high at all.
Yeah El Dorado's playfield is actually pretty fun. Problem is the scoring is so bland. Once you collect the EB, there's nothing else to do until you drain to do it again. If Dorado actually had some worthwhile reward for completing the drops (like Black Hole's scoring accelerator), it would...
For emulation, you need to emulate the whole CPU and switch matrix input and display and transistor output subsystems for that platform. For a simple table where you don't already have the platform emulated and aren't likely to reuse it, scripting could be easier. Goin Nuts is a prime example...
Yes it is. The problem with this strategy is surviving the end of Powerball Mania six times. PB Mania tends to end while the last ball is on the Powerfield, which always puts it at risk of falling into the bumpers and outlane. To chase that Spiral EB, you really do want to get the Powerball...
I kind of doubt Farsight is going to bother by this point. I'm sure they want to emulate BK, but the commercial value just isn't there. The proportion of players who refuse to buy it scripted but would buy it emulated can't be very big at all.
Twilight Zone. Actually a two-day marathon, I paused it overnight with 40 billion accumulated and maximum extra balls in stock.
I was finally on a roll, going infinite with extra balls, earning them faster than losing them. Left-right-piano-lock, hitting them all with ninety percent accuracy...
IIRC, these are the scripted ones:
Big Shot
Black Hole
Black Knight
Central Park
Genie
Gorgar
Firepower, Centaur, Flight 2000, El Dorado, and everything newer than them are emulated. This is all based on my memory from sources around here, I don't think there's any official list.
An EM could...
This. I just can't get into most Sterns. I think a big part of it is the audiovisual package. Williams games have the most bombastic productions for things like multiball and jackpots and wizard modes. "Don'ttouchthedoor donttouchthedoor donttouchthedoor" ... "Joust Damsel MULTIBALL...
* You can never defeat a machine completely.
Except Bride of Pinbot. :) (And there's several others in TPA where I can go infinite with extra balls.)
* It's the only game at an arcade whose length can determined solely by the person playing it. Theoretically, a game could go on forever...
Nice writeup. The Ringmaster jackpot value depends on which Ringmaster MB is running. Frenzie is 250k, Razz depends on a starting hurryup between 500k-250k, Special is 500k with an initial increase available to about 570k. But also note that every jackpot of any type scores more than the...
Got two more tips.
Easy Bonus Multipliers: The right inlane is hard to hit to light the bonus multiplier, except with this tip. Hold the right flipper when the Powerball is ejecting from the slot kickout and it will bounce into the right inlane. It's also timed well to shoot the left ramp...
Banzai Run... dear god I can already hear the screaming about camera bugs. Cirqus Voltaire is still unplayably broken after two years; I've lost multiple games to the camera locking on the backbox permanently.
